Default The Pursuit Of Unity - new instrumental (orchestral + VSTs)

Fresh out of Reaper, my latest song - The Pursuit of Unity. Created on Roland Fantom and VSTs.

Please help with genre. Has a mix of orchestral and electronic sounds. How would it be classified?

I look forward to your views and suggestions. Let me know why you like it, or why you don't!

Thanks for your time.

Beautiful combination of synthesizer and orchestral instruments!
What genre ... mmh ... I can think of "orchestral pop" - it reminds
me a bit of Alan Parson's "Tales of mystery and imagination".

In some places overlapping elements still bother each other a bit
- otherwise it's a very beautiful, emotionally rich composition.

Many thanks for the good comments, Enroe. Much appreciated. Orchestral pop it is!

I really like Alan Parsons' music. Feel humbled by the comparison.

The dissonances between the high-pitched staccato strings, and the lower strings were intended, but somehow those towards the end are quite harsh. Shall try to see what I can do about them.

Thanks again for the feedback - really pleased you liked it.

Getting "the big sound" seems to come naturally in your pieces...

I've just re-imaged an older orchestral piece w/ exclusive HW synths. Seems HW synths still can hold their own, next to all the fancy SW plugins.

Best...

Many thanks for the kind comment, gandsnut.

Am very happy with the Fantom - good selection with some 3,000 patches, and great sound. Still just scratching the surface though. Am yet to master the built-in FX and filters, and creating my own tones. Biggest advantage is that it's very easy to get you going.

I have visited your website, and I applaud your initiative. Very thoughtful and generous. Well done!

Always nice to get kind words.

Many years ago I bought the Sound Quest patch librarian (PC & Mac). The only reason I sprung for the cost was I took advantage of some competitive product upgrade or such. https://squest.com/index.html

I haven't used it much, but it seems to give a GUI view of many synth internal parameters & settings, which could be a lot easier than tiny screen navigation.

There are a number of Fantom models listed as supported.

Thanks for making me aware of MIDI Quest, gandsnut - this would be great to have - being able to control the hardware through a VST. I have tried the demo version, and unfortunately, it does not support my model, which is a Fantom 8. The Fantom 8 supports integration with Logic Pro and MainStage on Mac only. That would imply changing my computer hardware, and forgetting about Reaper...
