Default Unjustified crackles on playback start (SOLVED)

My project started to crackle on pressing the play button.

I'll try to collect all the relevant details:
I have a pretty nice project (~50 tracks).
Worked fine until yesterday.
Suddenly, crackles started to show up every time I press the play button (no matter where the cursor is. and after few seconds of playing - everything plays smoothly back again. until the next stop and start).
CPU is very very low, <15%, so it's not a real resources problem, also
until yesterday nothing was wrong, plus what I described as it does play fine after 2-3 seconds.

ALSO **** - (big unpredictable turn in the story...)
When I arm a channel record (any channel...) - the crackles disappear.... everything plays smoothly right on pressing the play button...!

Unfortuanely I can't use that as a workaround, due to what seems to be another bug,
in which the side chain is muted once I arm any channel record on.

Any suggestion?

I found the reason.
dual way sidechain. or in more details, the following architecture:

Final mix group
---Playback group ==> sends to Vocals sidechain
------Guitars group
---------gtr a
---------gtr b
---------...
---Vocals group ==> sends to Guitars sidechain

disabling one of those sidechains solve the issue!!

You seem to have an unallowed feedback-loop in your routing.

You might try to go to "File -> Project settings -> Advanced" and tick "Allow feedback in routing (can result in lower performance, loud noises)"

But be warned: If my assumption is correct, you might experience unwanted noises, that could damage (parts of) your gear, so it's a good idea to first turn down the volume of your amp.
It might be a better idea to rethink your routing to avoid such loops, if possible.

For the other problem, you could try to increase media-buffering in "Options -> Preferences -> Audio -> Buffering" and/or try to untick "Disable media buffering for tracks that are selected".
It's also good to have a harddrive that's not too fragmented.
