Default Solo selected items like in Logic (Solo Regions)

I always found this incredibly useful function in Logic. There is a solo button in the toolbar and when enabled only the selected regions can be heard. It's a real time function and you can quickly toggle between different regions and hear them.See here:

Hi there's a great script (or possibly more than one) that lets you achieve basically the same result, I use it all the time:

IIRC there are (SWS) actions for that.

Both those actions from what I can tell, solo the tracks based on the selected items which is nothing like the Logic method. The Logic method is region based not track based. In Logic "Solo Regions" means just that. When the solo regions button is active, whatever region(s) are selected will be solo'd but any unselected regions of any track will not be heard. This means you can be playing back a section the song and quickly select some regions in order to hear them exclusively. You can also change your selection and those selected regions will be heard exclusively. If the play cursor goes beyond a selected region to another region that region will be silent. You can also use a modifier on this solo regions button and it " solo locks" those regions if needed.

Reaper only has item mutes, not solos. So technically you could get what you want by making a custom action where it takes your item selection, stores it, inverts it, mutes the items, then inverts the selection back.

Yes I have actions for play selected items but it's not the same as the Logic method.

What about this Custom Action (see attachment).
(assign the Custom Action to a selfchoosen keyshortcut for fast workflow).

This is how it works:

- Just point your mouse onto an Item you wanna solo.
- type the selfchoosen shortcut.
- The pointed item will now be solo-ed and be played from it's start.
- if you have loop points linked to Time Selection and you have Transport > Repeat ON,
the solo-ed item will be played looped (can be handy for rehearsel of the solo-ed item)

But maybe this Custom Action goes "abit too far " for you.
Then you could maybe just use this custom Action:

Item: select item under mouse cursor
Item properties: toggle solo
Item navigation: move cursor to start of items
Transport: Play

In any case, both Custom Actions provide even faster and more convenient workflow that in Logic i think

I managed to do this:

Isn't that what you mean?

I also come from Logic and have always been a fan of that solo feature, what I managed to achieve in Reaper is roughly the same, maybe not exactly as smooth, but perfectly functional.

You are solo-ing whole Tracks with that workflow, not solely an Item.
As far as i have understood from Adralicus, that's not what he wishes for.

I could be wrong ofcourse, I am not The Saint.

Yes soloing just selected items and toggling between different items during playback.
