Love it!
I'm a prog drummer also.
But can play all styles.
Genesis are my inspiration too.
Just can't find anyone in Melbourne into Genesis.

Dreamy, bright...well done. I noticed that the percussion is quite busy, but I don't think that it dominates the song, it just commits the feel of the song to a certain direction. Overall, the production values are very close to what I would like for some of my songs.Maybe I'll just concentrate on songwriting and send it to you for mixing and production! Best of Luck!

too bad, i think the "real strings" would definitely add something more to this piece.

One strange thing I noticed when listening to this song again: the stereo imaging of the acoustic guitar at approximately 1:25 through 1:30 moves around (from left to right and then back to left). I hear the same thing again around 2:56 through 3:10.
I didn't notice it when listening on speakers, but when listening with headphones it really jumped out at me.

Overall a nice track...Nice guitar work. strings sounded fake. you could get better strings. Dont like the udu,tambourine/most percussion as much.I think it was poorly put together as a percussion bed. Maybe you could have added a steady shaker sound alone and some acoustic drums instead of all this percussion which ends up distracting me and taking away interest from the nice melody which deserves more attention than you give it.
Like the melody...its soothing. I think the song could have been much more dynamic had you kept the strings for the climax and left it with the guitar alone.
Overall a nice listen and thanks for sharing.
Now its your turn - find my thread and critique it.

Interesting, I never automated panning of the guitar throughout the song!

The percussion is gonna be lower in the mix when I add the missing instruments! Also the strings are sounding just as intended, I never wanted the realistic orchestra sound for this one...

Not sure why you think the congas are out of place on this song. I might think that if it were, let's say, a heavy metal song or a heart broken country song, but this very much has the feel of flying through a fantastic and enchanted world, with magical beings hidden deep within sacred rain forests. I think the congas work just fine in this setting. Good work ED. I could definitely see this piece finding it's way into a hollywood production.

Pretty, comforting, nice. Great use of the Urdu and since everyone is putting in requests...I think the xylophone is what gives it a magic quality and would like to hear them shine and ring a little more =^,^=
Thank you for a nice listen!

Good thinking, I think I could replace the sampled xylophone with the great modelled Pianoteq xylophone!

The composition sounds absolutely fantastic.
Only crit I have is about the stereo image of the guitar, for some reason it starts to irritate me after a while. The highs are very crisp on the left (and the guitar on the left basically sounds much louder than the one on the right) while the right sounds more bass/mid heavy.
Thats just my opinion though. I'd balance the left guitar just a little bit to the right and lower some of the low freqs off from the guitar track playing on the right.
I did however listen to the track on my headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro), the stereo image sounds a bit stronger on headphones than with speakers after all since the sound doesn't bleed anywhere...

Actually there's only one guitar (using RealGuitar2 stereo guitar). Gotta redo it, I guess!

Yep, that's because I mixed with my headphones. I gotta get me Redline Monitor until I get some proper monitors and treated room...

ED,
Did you ever finish this song.
I enjoyed it immensely and am very curious to hear the final mix with vocals and other stuff you mentioned.
If you didn't finish it, you should re-consider doing so -- its an ace song.

Haha, cool! Just stumbled on this. Always wondered what ED's music sounded like... This sounds like something perfect for a fantasy movie or game. Was this a personal or commercial project?

Listened to it again today.
Those friggin' bongos, congos, zongos or whatever are driving me totally insane!
Distracting beyond belief --- take them out before I send the boys around!!!
Such a beautiful composition spoiled by incessant bonging.

Heh heh, well this was 6 years ago and it's pretty good for his first serious work.
I'd like to here what ED's got up his sleeve today.

Cool
I like it and I'm always happy to see familiar members on the forum actually getting something done. As a guitarist I usually find sampled guitars painful to listen to but you pulled it off simulating to slow strums(AAS Strum acoustic ?)Great Work and thanks for sharing it :-)

Loved it well done ED!
I do agree about the congas though - a bit distracting.
