Default unlicensed use of Reaper

Hi,

I personally have a license for Reaper. This question is not about me. Right...

Just wondering if people can still download Reaper and use it essentially forever, as “nagware”. That still the case? I saw something about 60 days on the download page, so...

Thanks in advance.

Well technically nothing will happen after 60 days, so it's rather about your conscience.

Mr Kinney from RoboCop got to find out what eventually happens to those who don't pay for Reaper.
Not by accident it's called Reaper.

I bought my license during 5.9.something because I wasn't sure I'd have the cash if I waited until 6.

If whoever you are asking this for has the money to buy a computer to run a DAW on he will probably also have spare 60$ for a DAW.
The 60days are for evaluation. If the person wasn't sure after 60days I think the devs wouldn't mind if it became 70 or maybe 80 days. But eventually this person must decide whether he wants to use this DAW and in that case pay 60$ or quit using the software and move on.

EDIT: Rapid Environment Audio Production Engineering Recording.
That’s what the REAPER acronym stands for; care to share what is it that you are alluding to?

Your 15 seconds are up.

Here, here! I absolutely LOVE my Reaper! I'm learning stuff all the time.It is SO worth the mere, paltry sum of 60 quid-n-bob.I've already renewed once and it was automatic,no hesitation at all.

Depends on who you ask and when, I think. Rapid Environment for Audio Prototyping and Efficient Recording was another interpretation floating around. I guess Justin doesn’t care much, as long as it makes REAPER and Cockos can claim it’s an acronym

I like that one because at least it gives it the R at the end!

I like Schwa’s version because of the infinite regress his R causes

I gotta say: If you don't have $60 to pay for the main software you make music with, you might as well quit music altogether. I had to order a single cable the other day that cost more than that. It's not an inexpensive endeavor.

Hell, I'm currently paying two-thirds the price of a Reaper license PER MONTH for a Pro Tools subscription. Can't wait to finish my current projects in it so I can cancel that.

It is better to avoid such claims, what if someone write you "If you don't have $6000 to pay for the software..."
I still remember the time I was employed full time for less then $100 PER MONTH. And there are places in this world where that is still the case...

From what I know, REAPER is the last DAW which can be activated completely offline and without dongles. I am happy such approach still exists, especially since it is main software (it can be inconvenient when some particular plug-in stop working, but it is disaster when your DAW stop working).

If someone think "protected software will work forever". I have bought Cakewalk Sonar when it had offline authorization. Later they have changed to online... after "30 years" they was closed. Just by luck one rich man has "resurrected" it.

----------------

I hope Cockos keep current approach with REAPER's license. Sure, there are and will be people which abuse that, some of them almost have no choice. But there are and will be other who can pay and even ready to pay extra to prevent dongles or other nightmare authorizations.

The best way to figure out is that friend should live with the nag screen as long as he can and let us know what happens !

If "use it endlessly and live with the nagware" is what justin coded reaper to be... i guess your friend should be one really happy guy !

LOL. There should be a new branch of philosophy called reapistemology, a theory of knowledge concerned with determining how one comes to know what one knows about Reaper, and what it means to know that...

Yes they can, but if they haven't purchased a license after the 60 day trial period, they are in violation of the license terms and conditions. Cockos is probably not going to sue them - it's not worth the effort - but it's still a violation.

The license is only $60 for non-commercial use, which in today's market is very reasonable, compared to other DAW programs.

Why does it just kill the conversation every time I start making jokes about rape?

Same damn thing happened at my friend's daughter's high school graduation party.
