Fullscreen switching annoyance w/reaper
I use Reaper on El Capitan.
Maximizing Reaper makes it go full screen, which could be great except that doing some functions, like clicking on a mixer channel insert, which brings up the plugins window, often causes the full-screened Reaper window to "swipe" away to my previous desktop space, sometimes showing the plugins window i requested (and other windows I had previously opened) on that old "space", but sometimes not even the plugin window. Either way I then I have to switch back to the full screen "space' (by using cmd+tab or hovering over my dock and cick the reaper icon) that Reaper is on, and I'll see the plugin window there.
Sometimes selecting a new plugin will cause the same maddening behavior, and I find myself in a constant war of trying to click back into different "spaces" just to accomplish simple tasks.
What happened to the good old days of having 1 workspace, or at least not having a desktop environment where windows open seemingly arbitrarily into different spaces, with mandatory swipe animations?
Im losing my mind over this. I just want all my work related to reaper to be in one space, no desktop switching.
Anyone else experience this, or have a workaround? The best I can come up with is to never "maximize" (full screen) reaper, which is a very hard habit to break (clciking on the green + button at the top of Reaper window)..
Thanks all.

Yeah, I settled on just dragging the window out to cover the whole screen (minus the menu bar at the top).

The workaround is to turn off tooltips in Reaper Preferences/Appearance page! It's a bug.

Awesome, I think that is helping a lot. This was making me SO mad I wanted to cry.
The only thing still making the space flip for me now is a plugin using the reaper_host_i386 compatibility thing, but I can deal with this.

This is so annoying
Can’t believe it’s still a problem years later 😢
I’m going to try disabling tool tips
Any hope of this ever getting a real fix though?

I am using Reaper for a few days and stumbled upon the same problems on two different macs.
I seem to have found a pretty simple solution, at least this worked for me.
I just enabled Full Screen (now its checkmarked) in the Views Section and the problem seemed to be gone for the FX Window slide aswell.
Hope that helps!

Yeah can we please finally do something about this? It has always been an issue. Working with the mixer on a second monitor is fine but this isn’t always available.
The moment I mouse over any mixer channel parameter the display swipes back to whichever desktop was showing Reaper. If Reaper is fullscreen then the display will swipe back to whichever space was showing reaper before it was full screened.

I think this bug has been fixed since version 6.10. I have it earlier but not now in Reaper 6.11 and Mac OS 10.14

I confirm. Looks like tooltip windows are created on desktop where the Reaper main window was originally created. When this happens, macOS automatically switches to that desktop - even when Reaper window is not present on that desktop anymore.

It's kind of misleading actually.
If you click the green "fullsize" button, the issue persists.
However, if you press F11 (or click Fullscreen from the View menu) the issue seems to go away.

thanks for the workaround! Also there is a problem when I want to hit the space bar but I´m working on a plugin. Only with vst not vst3. You always have to click on the arrangement window to be able to hit play. It seems like the plugin window and the reaper program are two separate programs and are not connected.

There's all kinds of odd things in Reaper Mac build, especially with window handling.
I've had to settle on not using full-screen in a space at all, just running it on the main space enlarged as big as possible. It's the only way to reliably work and not have the screen randomly shifting to the other spaces, or straight-up deciding to draw certain dialog boxes on the other space.
Also a few weird keyboard shortcut things - space losing start/stop functionality when certain types of windows are open, etc.
I recognize that the differences in OS obviously play a big role in how screen elements are drawn, and it's extra overhead to ensure they are identical across platforms, but it really is distracting almost every time one of these things pops up in a session.

I´m also having this problem as well as the swipe problem in fullscreen mode. It's really hard to mix when you always have to click on the arrangement window and then back to the plugin window and again...

Had the same issue and was about to abandon Reaper for it. Super irritating. You can fix it by changing the shortcut to be Global. Double click the current shortcut in the actions list and then change it to a Global key.

I’ve got this issue also when fullscreen is not enabled. Just push something on tcp area, or just move cursor over it - and you immediately swipes to the next desktop

That has nothing to do with Reaper, It's you windows doing that, Turn off 'Snap Windows'
I did that and no more problems.

Robert, could you please walk me through the process to turn off the 'Snap Windows' setting?
I wasn't able to find it in my Mac OS Monterey system preferences.
The issue still persists even with the latest Reaper version 6.61. God forbid you do something on another desktop - every click on tcp will now swipe you to that window until quit. Obviously, making it impossible to work.
Here is the video link of the issue:

Weird that Reaper is the only DAW doing this :/

Yeah this is lunacy honestly
All it takes is to have opened the FX window once before Full Screening Reaper, and the FX window will forever always open on the other desktop from Reaper.

This needs to be fixed! There should really be a way to have Reaper maximized while still being able to open windows within the DAW without it forcing you to switch desktops.

Yup.
Devs : if you open the FX browser before going full screen, Reaper will insist on switching spaces every time you open the FX browser. Every. Time.

Hah, I feel ya. I've been dealing with this stuff for YEARS (I'm the OP of this more than 6-years-old thread!)
As to your last question about REAPER being built on a Mac, I know Justin discussed using an M1 macbook air recently. I'd assume they have several dev workstations for various types

I'm sure this is largely due to MacOS' weird implementation of desktops/spaces, but this said literally no other DAW behaves this way.

Alright so I was curious if any work had been done on this so I browsed the REAPER changelog for "fullscreen" and found this:
v6.26 - March 29 2021
+ macOS: add prefs/general/advanced option for window fullscreen button to activate fullscreen rather than OS fullscreen
Setting this option seems to have improved the behaviors so far. I haven't thoroughly tested this but it seems to make a big difference
It's in Preferences/General/Advanced UI Tweaks and tick the box that says
"Main Window fullscreen button activates REAPER-native fullscreen"

I clicked it and then quit/re-entered fullscreen, now all works in fullscreen and all window only inside fullscreen reaper
