Default In midi editor, insert a note without it becoming active selection

I'm back to Reaper from a long hiatus. I'm on a completely fresh install. So I might have had a fix for this in my old config, I can't remember.

In the midi editor: when I insert a note, that note is then selected/active. It would be a lot better for me if everything remained unselected unless I go in and actively select some notes with the marquee.

I often go to edit some velocities after inserting notes. I get tripped up because a single note is selected. I've checked mouse modifiers but I couldn't find what I needed there.

You can customize an action to deselect all notes after inserting them. Then bind the left mouse button to the action.

Maybe the mouse modifier "Draw/edit CC events ignoring selection" under MIDI CC event might help with your problem? That way you can still edit all velocities even if only one of them is selected.
