Remix_OS - new Linux distro for REAPER
Remix_OS (Realtime Environment for Multimedia freenIX Operating System) is a free Linux distribution based on Debian, Ubuntu and Puredyne, specialised for real-time audio.
Remix_OS comes with liquorix patched kernel 2.6.38-2 for hyper-lowlatency audio and includes fully-functional trial version of the REAPER DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) that runs with WineASIO driver.
With Remix_OS you don't need a professional audio card to get low latency.
Remix_OS is very fast, light and stable and can run live from a DVD or a USB stick or can be installed onto internal or external HDD or a USB flash drive.
Remix_OS also includes all media codecs needed for a good multimedia experience and a selection of the best applications designed to meet most of your daily needs:
* Audio, video and image editors
* Office suite
* Network applications
* Sun Java
* Easy-to-use backup software
Official website: http://www.remix-os.org
Forum: http://remix-os.forums.gs/
PS: I have to report, that Remix_OS website doesn't exist anymore.
But you still can download Remix_OS iso and torrents using following links:
remix_os-12.02-i386.iso
remix_os-12.02-i386.iso.torrent
remix_os-12.03-amd64.iso
remix_os-12.03-amd64.iso.torrent

OK, I have a 4.5 hour download time...lets see if it's worth it!

Interesting. I had just downloaded Puredyne after another board told how to load it onto a usb stick.
Please let us know how it works for you.

Thanks for the info Remixer! BUT......
I just placed my Mepis 8.5 live dvd in before I came here, and while it is true that the 64bit version will access & list all 4gb of memory, the 32bit version is listing 3.2gig, and 512mb for the video card (tho it has 1gb built in). I have not ran my Gamer, Mint, ArtistX, Open Suse, 11.3, or Debian 7.05 Live dvd’s yet to verify this, but I am sure that they also will read 3.2gb in the 32bit versions like I remember.
And yes, I did register the VST folder inside Reaper (Options -> Preferences -> VST), but I still have no joy after going back and again loading these up.
And really, none of this is as bothersome as not having acess to all 4 in/outs on my Delta66 sound card. I went thru & updated the ALSA drivers thru the Package Manager, but I still have no mixer to control it with...*sigh**...I will be spending tonight looking for a solution to this problem for sure!
And again I want to say that I am NOT dogging the OS, it takes a lot of work & dedication to get one of these up & running, and you have done a great job! These are just problems that I am having & reporting at the moment. If I get the Delta66 card figured out I will let folks know!

It could mean that 32-bit Mepis doesn't use all video memory. Let's find out it. Please run "lspci -vv | less" command in terminal and press "Enter" few times, until you get to the video card info (it begins with something like "VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation..."), then copy/paste that block here.

Still have no idea. For me VST's work fine. Did you click the "Re-scan" button?

You have to control it form JACK - not from alsa. Go to Multimedia -> Root JACK Ctl, then click on "Setup" and press "Interface"-">" arrow.

Remix_OS Download Link Doesn't Work
I am interested in trying Remix_OS but the Download link does not work.
Please let me know where I can get a 32-Bit iso of the Remix_OS Linux Distro so that I may try it out.
Thank You,

Hi, bringkeys,
I checked the link - it works. Just follow the instruction given on the download page. When you get the link to the iso file,"right-click on it and choose "Save Link As..." or use your download manager". Left click doesn't work.
You can also use a torrent - I'm seeding the file. But it can take more time.
Good luck.

Yeah, I've already tried it. Nothing works there yet. Seems there is a lot of work ahead. Good news anyway.

Remix-OS testing
Hi , for me it seems to be fine , but problem , i cant record in reaper , except the mic input of my HD build in audio.nothing from the line input except in the system.
I have the jack connections capture to asio reaper input , but reaper sees nothing.
I am suspecting the driver of the card...Any idea?

remix-os & Delta1010lt
I have problem with Gnome Alsa mixer , here is the error:
An error occured while loading or saving configuration information , blablabla,
Details:
Bad key or directory name: "/apps/gnome-alsamixer/display_mixers/": Key/directory may not end with a slash '/' ,appears 2 times
Now i identified 2 stable problems:
1/a usb hub with 3 midi adaptors is making trouble in the identification of the asio inputs in reaper.
2/If the built-in Realtek is disable , i have no more asio input for the delta
if it is enable , i can see the inputs , but the only sound i can see in the reaper's Vumeter comes from the Realtek Mic input,hum???
So does it mean to say that my delta is not recognised?The envy24 is functionning properly...I AM GONNA CRY!(joke)

USB hubs can always make problems.

You can try to set your delta as a default device

Continuing... where is reaper vst folder?
When i install a vst with its installer through wine , where does the dll goes?

Wireless problems
I tried Remix OS, but there was no wireless connection. I looked at all the advice on the site and the Remix forum and it was just too dense for me. I'm somewhat savvy as a computer user generally, but all this just hurt. I felt so helpless. Nothing seemed to work, nothing was straightforward about how to actually get the driver going... but I've installed other Linux system and they just worked out of the box (same computer), so the contrast was harsh. If I had wireless working, then I'd feel like I could get to trying out the rest of the system.
My big question is: If I just use LinREAPER on some other distro, will that work as well overall? Because I'd like to set up a nice KDE system and hand-pick the programs I really prefer, and I just want also to be able to run REAPER...
Or if someone could give me simple and non-frustrating advice, clear and meaningful, that would get the wireless working, then I'll give it another try (though I don't really love the overall OS setup, just the superb REAPER implementation...)

Remix_OS has wireless connection and supports most of the Wi-Fi adapters. To configure it you should use Network Manager Applet on the panel.

I did that. There's no wifi showing up. It's not like other distros where I can click on the applet and search and find my wifi. Nothing shows up.

What do you see, if you right-click on it? Is the box "Enable Wirless" checked?

Yes, Enable Wireless was checked. I tried all the different windows and settings. As best as I could tell, the system just didn't recognize the wireless card.
