Default ProjectConverter 1.2.1 - free tool to convert Reaper projects to/from new DAWproject!

I just released the 1st version of ProjectConverter which allows to convert between Cockos Reaper project files and the new DAWproject format!
The DAWproject format is already supported in Bitwig Studio as well as Presonus Studio One. Which means you can now exchange projects between these 3 DAWs!

ProjectConverter is a free open source tool and can be downloaded from:
https://mossgrabers.de

Here is the introduction video:

Enjoy!

Thank you Moss!
Do you think it would be possible to have it featuring ABleton Live import/export as well?

Awesome !

But same kind of question as above.

Since you've completed this project, you have at least a good idea of the process.
And as I'm not using Studio One or Bitwig, do you think it's possible for a third-party LogicPro (or even cubase) coder to do the same ?

Doesn't it kind of miss the point to ask if support for Live or any other DAW can be added? You really need to ask the developers of those DAW's if they are going to support the universal DAWproject format.

Nice work Moss. Speedy too! Can't wait to try it out.

:-) Everythings possible, if you have some years of spare time to decipher proprietary binary file formats.

Incredible. Thanks for your contribution, Jürgen!

Now we just need to get more developers on board with the DAWproject format. ;-)

For Live 10 to REAPER, there's a conversion script.
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=234839

Also, FLP <-> ALS seems to be possible.
https://jukeblocks.io/convert/

I don't test any of them, but technically FLP to ALS to RPP to DAWProject might be possible.

Version 1.1.2 is online!

Get it from https://mossgrabers.de
  • New: Only set DAWproject tracks to hybrid if both audio and MIDI is present.
  • Fixed: Fixed a crash when a Reaper project contained an empty node.
  • Fixed: An error was shown if the last Reaper top track was set as the end of a folder.
  • Fixed: Wrong message was logged when presets were about to be saved.

Enjoy!

Hey Moss. This is amazing - and oh so very close to working for me I am able to convert my Reaper project to .DAW, but when I open it in studio one I have all of the tracks and folders, the midi data is all there, but the audio tracks are empty as is the media pool. The VST fx on the audio tracks are importing correctly, which is brilliant! During conversion, Project Converter said that it was compressing the audio, and the file is certainly large enough that it should be there.

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?

Again - incredible work! I wish I had this when I switched from Studio One a few years back and had to convert 120 projects manually.

Are you using the latest ProjectConverter version 1.1.2 or do you have audio and MIDI on the tracks?
Studio One cannot handle Hybrid tracks and there are some bugs in Studio One (there should be an update soon).

Thanks for the Quick reply Moss! They are just audio file - no hybrids. I simplified the project down to no avail. I suspect you are right that the problem lies with Studio One. I converted the .DAW file that Project Converter created back to a .rpp file and it loaded perfectly in Reaper.

I shall await an update from Presonus - ironically the very thing that guided me to Reaper in the first place.

I am just downloading a demo of Bitwig Studio to give it a try there.

Just amazing work Moss. Thankyou. Once I have it up and working I will be sure to swing by your website and buy you a coffee.

Kindest regards,
Bruce.

EDIT: A quick test in Bitwig. All of the tracks are there, as are the VST plugins. A few of the tracks are out of time. I guess there are a few kinks for the DAW developers to iron out. Early days I suppose.

I just released a little bugfix update 1.1.3:
  • Fixed: A DAWproject which did not confirm to the project XML schema could not be converted but only a warning should have been displayed.
  • Fixed: A DAWproject which contained a VST 2 device with an empty (preset) name could not be converted.

Get it from https://mossgrabers.de

Enjoy!

Hey Moss.

I installed your update and ran a few tests. I created a song in studio one with a single track with no fx and attempted to convert it to .DAW format. The conversion failed with the following message:

parsing source project: C:\Users\bruce\OneDrive\Desktop\A Fifth\2023-10-31 bruce\2023-10-31 bruce.song
entry
java.lang.NullPointerException: entry

at java.base/java.util.Objects.requireNonNull(Unknown Source)

at java.base/java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor.runWorker( Unknown Source)

at java.base/java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run (Unknown Source)

at java.base/java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

Done.

I then created a song the same in Reaper and converted it to .DAW format. When opened in Studio One, the result was exactly as with the earlier more complex attempts, where the track was listed but no audio was imported. It seems that conversion in that direction is working, with vst plugins, folders and even more complex buss routing to some degree, but the audio files are not imported into studio one. Below is the text of the conversion process:

parsing source project: W:\Gaz\A Fifth\A Fifth\A Fifth.rpp
Validating project file...
Writing destination file(s) to: C:\Users\bruce\OneDrive\Desktop\A Fifth DAW
Compressing preset file: plugins/eec9498d-79c1-4f6a-9dff-8e2490935656.vstpreset

Compressing audio file: samples/Media\A Fifth of Beethoven_freeze_Main BUS.wav
Done.

I passed your converter along to a friend who also runs Reaper and Studio one in his home studio. His results were the same, so it is unlikely anything to do with a particular file. Nonetheless I have zipped all three song versions (Studio One, Reaper, and the file created by the Reaper to DAW conversion in project converter) here:

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help, and good luck with this project!

Regards,
Bruce.

This tool does only convert between Reaper project and DAWproject files. To convert to/from Studio One you need to first export a DAWproject file from Studio One.
