The problem that I was referred to, is that left-clicks ALWAYS deselected all events, no matter which mouse modifiers are pressed and no matter what action specified. As a result, double-click or left-click + mouse modifier cannot be used to call any Action or script that depends on, or is supposed to manipulate, selected events.
