Software Audio Device

I'm not sure if this exists, though it seems as if it should.

I'm interested in finding a piece of Mac software that acts as an audio I/O device and is selectable in all the normal places where one does audio configuration. Basically, I could choose it as Reaper output, for example and also as input for iMovie, forming an application-to-application connector.

Any hints (or derisive laughter)?

For completeness, since posting my question I've also found a github project called Soundflower which seems to be something similar.

Yeah, BlackHole is basically a newer (free) alternative to Soundflower: https://www.musicradar.com/news/some...-for-mac-users
Another free option is JACK (which is also mentioned in the musicradar link), but the setup might require a little more work there: https://jackaudio.org/
