Default Reaper on ReactOS!

https://twitter.com/reactos/status/1351078940534853633

"Another surprise for you... REAPER 6.18, a DAW working in #ReactOS! Reportedly, it is smoothly running and installed VST was working fine, no issues with audio.
Test: dsrev"

For me this is big news, I've been following ReactOS (open source version of Windows NT)for ages ...

... But never thought my favourite DAW would run on it!

ReactOS is still Beta Alpha software, has been for yeeeeaaaars, but the last few months, they could finally afford full time developers and progress has skyrocketed.

Great news! I just downloaded the latest bootcd and live files... no idea what to do next but I do have a spare laptop ready to install once I do!

This could really change our world in terms of windows.

I'm afraid it might a lot of be hit and miss for a lot of people at this point of development... Don't get your expectations too high...

if you succeed on getting ReactOS running , it's often on computers with no dedicated graphic or audio cards etc.

... but i'm super excited, it really, really looks they are finally posting versions that are working on physical computers and not mostly on virtual machines!

(I have a lot of old computer hardware at home, all Linux repurposed... I think I know what to do in my spare time the coming weeks :-)

Yep - I am going to use an older i3 laptop as a test bench and see if I can get the "new" 64bit version going.

Yesterday evening was a bit of a waste of time... I didn't succeed to even get close to boot on several laptops.

(Doesn't help two of them were old macbooks, heehee. Those are apparently still terra icognita..)

But I'm sure I'll succeed eventually.

From what I've read the last few days, it only works on some hardware... I think I will try to get the x86 running to begin with.

At the moment the 64 version is 'only' a 'port,' only +most+ of the code has been ported so far... IIRC there is just one guy working on this for now...

I bet with greater visibility and hence more donations etc. this will surely chance for the better in a short time.

Trouble is, they are satying it is mostly shortage of coders who know what they are doing, so the money side is going to have to be immense to enable hiring AND KEEPING decent people.

Fingers crossed that this does attract some big, big businesses....

Interest is definitely picking up the last couple of months. Even Linus Tech tips reviewed it...

Being able to actually boot into the OS without having to be an uberhacker turned out to be a major milestone.

Who'd have thought ? ;-)

(Tonight I'm going to try the 16 bit versions...

ReactOS has been sitting in my "try-out" folder for years now.

Good to know it's getting some traction.

Default ReactOS - Can't boot ():

Has anyone here actually gotten this iso booted (either from usb or cd) ?
I've tried both of the isos on cd and usb stick on three of my Windows PCs .

One laptop and two desktops .

clues / guesses ?

Got a step ahead ; now the boot process is giving me "IO1 Initialization Failed."
