Default Setting up Alesis VI61 keyboard/drum pads

Greetings all,

Long time Reaper user but its been a lonnnnng time since I set up a MIDI controller in DAW software, and I have never set up drum pads before.

This controller has a 16 pad drum pad, and 61 keys. Whenever I set up an instrument, the pad is always 16 regular keys of any sound I set up, as if it mimics the keyboard.

I have tried multiple combinations of channels and watched several videos (saw a person achieving what I want to do in FL studio) but nothing helped out.

Overall question is this; in Reaper, how do I get my work flow setup so my pads are recording drums and my keys are recording a separate instrument?

If your midi controller has similar settings to mine, you can use the drum pads to output to one channel, and the keys to another channel. Then in Reaper you can set up separate tracks to input the midi from those 2 different channels.
