Default 2021 Play Cursor Update

I understand that in 2006, a smooth play cursor might have a minimal but significant impact on performance on laptops and underperforming computers at the time. But is that still relevant in 2021?

Could we get a smoother performance out of the play cursor? Or at the very least make it an option in the preference menu. I very much doubt that my 9900k and 1070ti would even notice.

In fact, someone prove me wrong but I'm pretty sure any cheap CPU with built in GPU in 2021 would not even feel such a minimal performance draw.

My eyes and brain on the other hand would be eternally grateful.

Cheers,

I thought we could have a fresh discussion about it and refresh the request. 6 years is a long time for software and PC development. Arguments that used to hold might not have the same value now with modern computers.
