Default Item selection changed for me

I tried to find another thread on this but to me it looks like there isn't one.

Up until now, when I wanted to select multiple items I would just ctrl click. But after installing Reaper again from scratch, now when I select an item and then another they both get selected without using control. (What I have read and seen about it gives me the impression that this is standard behaviour). This drives me completely crazy. Everytime I want to move something, other items that I apparently selected earlier also move or are copied. So I have to look if something else is selected, then deselect is before I can move the intended item(s). So I keep undoing and escaping.I have looked for settings in preferences, but can't find anything that gets me back to the behaviour that I am used to.

By default if you select an unselected item, previously selected items are deselected. This is customizable in preferences > editing behavior > mouse modifiers, in the media item left-click context. It sounds like maybe you have this customized to "add items to selection" as the default action?

For peace of mind you could put the action "toggle offscreen item selection" on the toolbar. This way you will have an indicator any time items you can't see are selected.

Thanx Guys,

It turns out there is an additional possibilty to assign a different action to clicking the bottom of the item, and this one was set to toggle item selection. So this made the mouseclick behaviour even more weird. Sometimes it adds to selection sometimes not. Only if you know there is a different action when clicking the bottom of the item it makes sense. I think I wouldn;t have found this withou your help. Nice
