I must be missing somthing. it loads fine but the pan knob has a small fader over it and only will go 100% L or R? is this just for V4? any help would be appreciated. I run 3.74
I've had a look at most of the track look and feel. I wonder if this is possible. On the slim and alt slim fader with side VU, maybe you can add slim fader with just a light or a few lights that indicate audio on the channel.
I've now worked extensively with this theme and it is lovely. I do however find the faders too long when you put them on one screen. Would it be possible to have a thin track with meter specifically for this use. One Screen.
I recon it is purely because of the size of the pan pots. But have a look.
I just thought a bit about it, to keep with the look and feel, why don't you in stead of a long fader put a volume pod and fader pod up - like the old line mixers from makie? That would be great and it would really fit in well with the theme. Then you can have the arm and various buttons there as well so that you can use it when you do more VSTi type stuff. And because it will be so small you would be able to have a heck of a load of them on the screen at once. With that you could possibly put a small LED that displays usage of the channel if that is possible
I finally got to do some proper recording/mixing with the theme, and I really enjoyed using it - but my first thought was...... the red and blue looks horrible!!
I thought it looked great when I was making it, and testing 2 or 3 tracks at a time, but when I loaded a big project up, it was really unclear and hard to navigate. Sorry guys!
So, I made a new version with clearer text, which can also now be coloured. Hopefully it still looks kinda hardware-ish!
Added MCP Master Layouts:
Stretchy 1
Stretchy 2
Stretchy 3 (Short)
Stretchy 4 (Short)
(Use one of these if you want to float or dock the master track)
Added TCP Layouts:
Horz Meter 1
Horz Meter 2
Increased contrast on pan/width labels (I didn't make it white as I thought it was a little bit too much, but it is a lot lighter, and I think it is much clearer now.)
Also increased contrast on MCP param/send knobs and TCP panel vol/pan knobs.
The stretchy's break a bit when track icons are on, and the mcp is at minimum height. You can set the minimum mixer height (in the rtconfig) to a larger value if you like to prevent this if it bothers you, but depending on your screen res, you may lose multiple rows, so I didn't change it by default.
Ok, I can't really do much more with it for a while as I haven't any spare time for a bit..... hopefully that fixes the main issues!
@musicbynumbers
I did a version at 122px wide with recinput, no fader and some sliders for the pan/width..... is that similar to what you wanted? I tried to spread them out a bit to make it easier to hit them. If you want it tweaking a bit just let me know!
@WynD
The stretchy panel is a great idea - I think it works really well, so I did a wide, and a narrow version too. I hope I did it similar to how you were imagining it. If you want to alter any of the other tracks to be stretchy, you can have a look at the mcp_bg and mcp_bgsel png's in stretchy 1,2 and 3. I moved the pink lines to stop the top section moving, and added a panel for the buttons, I/O and AUTO Indicators. If you compare them to the originals, you should see the differences, and where to edit the other png's if you decide to have a go at doing some more.
The code is gluing the buttons, index number, pan/width knobs etc to the top.... (the folder icon is glued to the bottom in the main mcp section) ....and making the vu/fader stretch with the height.
The best way to understand what it is doing is to delete/change bits and pices of the code one at a time on an individual element, and see how it affects it when you stretch the mixer up and down. Then put the code back in, and try a different part.
At first it may seem completely baffling but after a while it should click. (Although after saying that, I have done a lot of hours on that code now, and I still get really confused by it!)
The main thing to watch are the last four digits:
.....0 0 0 0] glue to top
.....0 0 0 1] stretch with height
I am sorry, I have run out of time!! If you want to have a go at editing the layouts yourself.... you are welcome! If not, when I get some time, I may have a look at the layouts you suggested, as they sound like they could be interesting.
There are quite a few to choose from in the new version anyway!
It works fine at home !
thanks for your work this is my theme now ! and i will keep it for a while ... very handy ! mostly Dark Vador on Master !!! ahahahah !

Love Darth Fader!!LOL. Great theme. Thanks for the horizontal meters on the TCP.
Just to let you know I use really dramatic track colours( I can't see lightly shaded things) and the knobs change colour to the track colour. Not a big deal. Also the Sel button changes colour.
How would I change the colour of the Arm,Solo and Cut buttons to a darker shade when selected?
Excellent theme. Thank you.
The stretchy panel is exactly what I was hoping for. I love having that little bit of extra space for fine tuning my mix. Both wide and narrow stretchy look very nice. Thank you so much.
The only side effect I have is that there are no numbers on the meter.
I can work without that tho since the meter itsself will let me know any and all clipping volume and clipping issues. I can always switch between layouts to check on specific levels should I need to.
Also your change in the colors and text for the tracks is a really good.
You really have put together a really fine theme. Very easy to work with and very versatile with all the different layouts you have now included.
I am going to try to learn at least some of the basics of Walter and themeing so I can be a little self reliant on modifying things for my own personal tastes. I really appreciate what you put together for me.

I am guessing you mean with the track panel tinting on? I don't really use that - never really thought about it when I put it together - oops! I just tried it to see what it looks like - I was quite surpised, it looks ok! Bit trippy with the pan knobs tinted! It might be possible to stop those elements tinting, but it would be a lot of work, and would need some hacking (maybe take the sel button off the background, and put it as a yellow/pink line shifted hacky thingy attached to the idx bg? if it doesn't affect the solo/mute buttons? Just thinking out loud... don't know is the short answer!)

If you unzip the theme, inside the 'rock_solid_unzipped' folder you will see all of the button elements - look for the things you want to change, like 'mcp_mute_on', 'mcp_solo_on' - if you can view the folder with an image viewer it makes it easier to find them. Then open them in an image editor. Adjust the brightness down a bit and re-save them. Or shift the hue to change the colour. (In photoshop - Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast and Image -> Adjustmets -> Hue/Saturation)

It's a handy thing - I started learning a bit to modify a couple of existing themes slightly... just little things I wanted to change. It's just like a lot of things, a bit baffling at first, but if you keep plugging away at it it starts to make sense bit by bit. Good luck with it!

Y1know what? That blue with red surround/writing is starting to grate a little with me too. Started noticing it once I got over about six tracks...
I really hope this doesn't mean I have to learn walter to change it...
Only a case of either a too dark blue or a too blue red if you get me. The net result on my monitor is just a bit too uv lamp meets neon sign to be comfortable.
as always not a criticism as I love the theme, but just a personal preference...

I have a quick question for you NandyC or anyone who is familiar with Walter.
I have been experimenting and am making headway at some of the very basics.
I have mainly been playing around with the placement of different buttons and items.
I have taken the stretchy-ness of the stretchy even further but have something I just can't figure out yet. And forgive me for I do not know how to get a screen capture of this for simplicity.
I have the mixer docked and stretched all the way to the top as far as it will go. I have all the buttons and labels set up with the positioning where I want them within the panel.
The mcp_bg and mcp_bgsel pngs always load up shrunk to about half the mixer size. And when I stretch it up everything looks great. How do I get the png's to load up and automatically fill the whole mixer panel from bottom to top?
Also I still need to learn how to 'attach' all the elements to the png's so they will move up and down properly with the mixer panel.
I have been using White Tie's guide on Walter and it has been a great help. I still have a LOT of reading and experimenting to do. But I am making progress slowly but surely.
@NandyC ,Ive decided to put my hand to WALTER. This I am sure is going to be a learning curve.
Before I start I would just like to know a few things from you. Attached is a quick concept before I start. apart from the line mixer, I want to make a red and blue fader Slim track (MCP).
*: Can you use a volume pod in stead of a fader? The attached pic is only a quick concept, but there will be no stretching involved.
*: If yes, could you send me a volume knob of your choice or can I just change the colour on top, then if yes what color would you prefer.
*:is it possible to make a volume know - ctrl clicable?
*:I would also like to change the Top Meter slim and normal track panel so that it has ARM and SOLO and FX on it, I am not able to find the top meter slim fader in your setup?
Hi guys... your'e welcome! I'm really pleased you like the new version. Thanks again for all of your positive comments.
I've just started a big project at work, and I won't be able to check the forum for a bit now, but please feel free to post up any mods/comments... I will check the forum when I get a chance.

I think the only stretchy layout that has a VU with a meter scale is the 'top meter' layout, which seems to automatically re-size the scale. Is this what you meant?

Hi natierau - good luck, it's good fun!

Yes - on the 'big meter' layout, the black knob is the volume - if you set the size of the volume small enough (24 by 24 or whatever) it automatically sets it as a knob. Check the code for volume in "08. Big Meter" in the rtconfig.

I used a black knob throughout for the volume knobs, but you can use whatever colour you wish!

If you mean ctrl drag for fine adjustment, then yes... it does this automatically.

The png's for the slim top meter are in the 'slim 9' folder. The code is number 30 and 31 in the code.
One thing you may need to consider when you are doing this is that if you want lots of rows you have to look at the minimum mixer height (currently 'mcp_min_height 407') at the beginning of the WALTER code. This means that the mixer will stretch down to a minimum of 407, and when it is stretched up to 814 you will get two rows, and 1221 will give you three rows etc. Even if you make a tiny layout (100 pixels high) it will stretch it up to the minimum height of 407. If you want lots of small rows (say for the sake of argument you made the new layout 200px high) then you would need to set the minimum height to 200, so that when the mixer is stretched to 800 pixels high, you would get 4 rows etc. This would mean that the current layouts would break if you stretch the mixer below around 400. You will just have to try it and see what you want from it - if you made a new version (Rock Solid Mini?) with a few short layouts all designed to go down to 200px (or whatever value you choose) it would work consistently, or you could just keep your mixer large and not worry about the broken layouts when it is small. Oh, yeah I nearly forgot... just to make it a bit more complicated (!) you have to check your layouts with the track icons showing and not showing, as it changes things a bit. You have to increase the min size to accomodate the icons - I do it with a bit of trial and error depending on the layouts ('cos I don't know a better way to do it!)
(All of this stuff is 'as far as I know' anyway - I am no expert!!)
@natierau
I had a little bit of spare time earlier, and I had a quick look at the mini layout for you. Check out the 'mini' folder and the block of tabbed out lines at the end of the code. You will need to un-tab them, as well as switch the mixer height at the beginning to 180. This will break everything else, but it will give you a possible starting point for the line mixer layout. I can't do anymore on it at the moment. Hope it helps.
Thanks for the code on the meter.
I'll give that a try.
UPDATE: I tried adding the code but I don't get anything????
I've rebooted Reaper, changed themes away from and back to rock solid but still nothing shows up.
I am still a complete newbie at this. What could I be doing wrong?
Do you mean a meter with numbers? Maybe I am looking for the wrong end result.
If you download the latest version of the theme, I have put the lines you need into the code, but tabbed out:
Layout "24. Stretchy":
set mcp.meter [11 389 7 543 0 0 0 1] <-- old (active) slim version
;alt code for metered VU:
;set mcp.meter [6 389 19 543 0 0 0 1] <-- wider version with numbers
and
Layout "27. Wide Stretchy":
set mcp.meter [11 224 7 708 0 0 0 1] <-- old (active) slim version
;alt code for metered VU:
;set mcp.meter [6 224 19 708 0 0 0 1] <-- wider version with numbers
Just untab the last line of each block, tab out the old version, and it should work. (Check to make sure the newer line is last, as WALTER always uses the last line it finds for each element. That way, even if you forget to tab out the older line, it should still work.)
