is there a script, action or render setting for the following?
render each separate item on a track to a wav file using the track name as the filename and appending the item start time to this filename.
i've just started a huge project involving breaking my sound effects library into samples, grabbing fragments of each sound file and editing each of these fragments as an item. once done with each sound file i have many small items on the timeline. it would be great to be able to push a button and have each of these smaller items rendered to a file with its start time appended to the filename. hope that's clear.
thanks,
BabaG

Bounds: N/A
wild cards - $track $start
remember track fx and master fx don't get printed

cool. thanks for this. just tried it. i assumed this is using the 'batch file/item converter' from the main menu. when i use that, though, the time that gets appended does not use the timeline's format. it uses 'min-sec.ms' format. my timeline is always set to hmsf. is there a way to get hmsf?
thanks again,
BabaG
(testing this on linux btw)

thanks! hadn't known of the 'selected items' source option in the main render window. it still gives me format of 'min-sec.ms' for the time, though. wanted 'hmsf' since that's how i count and display everything.
thanks again,

interestingly, when using the main render window, silence was added to each of the rendered items at the tail. looked to be the same amount added to each new file.
when using the 'batch file/item converter,' only the first item converted got silence added. the rest seem to have been converted with the correct length.
there are no effects which would cause tails to be calculated.
thanks,
BabaG

did you uncheck the 'tail' box?
"there are no effects which would cause tails to be calculated"
tails aren't calculated, it's one setting in the render window. default is 1000ms

oh. not sure if it's ticked or not. didn't even see the box. will check it when i get back to the studio later. still, seems a bit odd that it would, in one case, behave differently on one item vs the rest.
thanks again,
BabaG

yup. it was the 'tail' setting. there is some inconsistency between the 'render' window and the 'batch file/item converter' window, though. as i said before, the tail setting was only picked up by the first item rendered using the batch window. all of the items picked it up using the render window. also, i had the 'write bwf ('bext') chunk' option selected but it was only applied when using the 'render' window and was missed when using the 'batch' window.
thanks for all the help,
BabaG

Small correction: Track FX ARE also rendered when rendering selected items.

thanks, mlprod. i guess the question is actually still open because of the inability to have the '$start' wildcard display in a format other than 'min-sec.ms.' is there a way using actions or a script to render items with a given filename and the start time as hhmmssff appended? for now i'm using the default for the '$start' wildcard but really wish i could use a timecode format.
thanks,
BabaG
