If i understood correctly you would like to know what does BIAS mean in a Fairchild compressor?, Correct ?

"...DC Bias controls knee of the compressor as well as the ratio. As the knob is turned CW, the ratio gets lower and the knee gets broader. The threshold also gets lower as the knob is turned CW. The ‘factory cal’ tick mark should be aligned with the screw slot “dot” for factory spec..."

In a plugin this should be the same as the hardware.

Always good to take a look at the manual of the device or plugin you´re using to see proper instructions on the particular functions.

i didnt know there was a manual for this. my plugin shows a numerical value for the bias, at 70. but what u posted might help. cuz likely lower number means left on the knob and higher number means right on the knob. im guessing.

Here is the online manual for the JS Fairly Childish compressor:

https://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.p...FairlyChildish

It says this about bias:
"The Bias

When this is set low and the threshold set to catch peaks, you get fairly hard ratios of 30:1 (give or take) - and as you lower the threshold, the ratios goes up a LOT - to around 300:1 (give or take). But with the bias set high and the threshold set to just catch the peaks, you get some gentle compression, with the ratio fluctuating from around 1.1 to 3:1. As you lower the threshold, the ratio goes up ... to around the 15:1 mark give or take. "
