Default Assigning Individual Tracks on Reaper

Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure where to place this as I'm new here, so I apologise!

Hopefully someone can help as I'm clueless....

So I would like to record 2 Microphones at the same time; One for my Guitar Amp & the other as a Room Mic.

When both are set up and 'armed' in Reaper, they're both acting as one? If that makes sense?
Example; if I click my fingers next to the Amp Mic, both levels on Reaper move. Same applies to the Room Mic.

Even though both Mics are set up and 'armed', only the Guitar Amp Mic comes through on both channels, yet if I lower the Guitar Amp Fader on my Mixer to Zero, then the Room Mic is picked up and recorded (albeit quieter for obvious reasons) on both channels. When recording Guitar that is....

I have tried messing about with inputs/settings etc on Reaper but nothing works.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
My friend who has tried to help me has suggested perhaps it could be my mixing desk which is the issue?

In a nutshell, what I would like to do is have both Microphones separate from one another. Is this possible?

All help is appreciated!

-------------------
My mixing desk is a 'Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB' if anyone is wondering.

Many thanks,
Charles.

Are you able to select individual channel outs from that mixer as inputs in Reaper or are you selecting the main mix out as inputs in Reaper?

If I read the specs right, the USB is only a 2-channels stereo bus.

It sounds like maybe you aren’t panning the mics hard left/right so that each mic is on a separate channel of the stereo bus coming out of the mixer.

Hi all,

So here is what I've done after taking both of yours advice....

I'll try and keep it concise!

I changed Audio System setting to ASIO. This allowed me enable Input & Output Range.
This allowed me to set the Input on each Tracks (2 Tracks) to Mono In 1 & Mono In 2.

I then panned said tracks to hard left/hard right as suggested by Lunker!

I clicked my fingers by each Microphone while watching Reaper, and they're both picking up sound.. more sound by amp when clicking there and less sound from room mic & vice-versa.

Then recorded Bass.....so it all works!!

But I have now stumbled across a new issue(s), Playback!

When I press play, there is no sound despite the Master channel is moving.
I've plugged my headphones into my mixing desk and still nothing.

Yet if I change the Audio System settings back to 'DirectSound', I can hear playback?!

Is there anyway to overcome this problem?

Thanks again Lunker & b2001, you've helped a lot!

Charles.

of course both mics pick up sound when you click your fingers, they are both armed, right?
That is normal.
Any armed mic will pick up sound, that's what they do.
You need to record them separately if one is to not pick up noise from the other source.

When you go into your Device Preferences and select ASIO as your Audio System, is there a Behringer ASIO driver listed in the pull down menu?

If so, when you select that, what does it show as your output range options in the pull down menus for First and Last?

Just a rule of thumb, may not always apply, but it's always best to use the ASIO drivers supplied by the manufacturer that either came with the device, or that can be downloaded from their website.
