Default Looking for a theme

Hello, I'm mainly using the default theme, but I'm still looking for a better match to my taste/workflow. My ideal theme:
  • Doesn't need super high resolutions.
  • Doesn't look too busy.
  • Has limited tinting. Tracks and items mostly keep their colors, selected or unselected.
  • Since it doesn't rely on tinting, it has default overlay indicators for selected tracks, items, envelopes. If the overlays are not active by default, the right bitmaps are there, ready to be renamed into action.
  • Has TCP sliders that keep their alignment with the others even when you have folders and subfolders, so that relative levels are easy to read at a glance.
That's all I can think of now, but I'm sure to have overlooked something...
Any suggestions?

Is there a particular theme that's close to what you're looking for? Once I figured that out, I was able to create my own theme which is a hybrid of several themes.

Hello and thanks for your replies.

@myfeltgood I haven't looked that much, to be honest. I would like to keep my use of Reaper about making music... which already isn't always the case There have been a few themes that have good looks for me, but some have mute and solo buttons in all the wrong places, some have buggy fonts, some are just too busy... that's why I tried for some brainstorming here.

@martmix That theme looks clean! But it's a bit too bright for me. I prefer dark themes with a little more contrast. I really love overlay pngs for selected objects. The tinting drives me mad when I have sparse selections. Starting an action only to realize the selection isn't what I thought is a blunder that I still make much too frequently.

Any of these interest you. All different takes but kind of with the same aim you're looking for.

Hi Juan

Have you considered making your own theme?

It really isn't that difficult. Honest.

I created my own theme from scratch because I found that trying to understand and then tweak existing themes took more time than to learn. So I learned the basics and went from there.

You say that some themes are too busy or have buttons in the wrong place. Creating your own theme from scratch allows you to create exactly what you want.

I attempted to explain my theme in a document which shows the images and associated WALTER code. If you think you may be interested then let me know and I will post a link to that. It is now out of date as I went on to "improve" certain aspects of that theme.

Only negative, I guess, is that I don't bother much with folders, so you may need to get your own head around how to get certain elements aligned when using folders and sub folders.

cheers

andy

Take a look at CRado - I've tried a bunch but keep going back to this and have tweaked a few things to my liking but Cubic13 did some great work on a theme from Nick Moritz.

I've considered the idea, and I believe you when you say it's not that difficult. But it would take some to master the art... knowing myself, the last thing I need is getting bogged down in theme design!

I'll give each suggestion a test drive and elaborate on that.

Thanks for the suggestions, @ts335, @synkrotron, @antiClick, @myfeltgood and @martmix!

I just started working on my own theme, its quite a bit to get in to but I feel it will be worth the effort. I'm currently only making one for my own use but if you feel like it could be of use I'll upload it when its working properly.
