Default Screen Capture + Direct Sound Issues

Hey guys, I know there are other threads like this, but I haven't found anything to fix my problem. I want to use CamStudio to do a screen cap of REAPER. A microphone will be hooked up to my interface (TASCAM US-800) and a track will be set to monitor in REAPER. My problem is I can't get the sound to come directly from my computer and into CamStudio. Neither my interface nor my built in sound card support that "Stereo Mix" option... Any tips?

You can physically patch some of your interface's line outs to it's line ins. I made a couple of narrated screen cap videos this way, and it worked pretty well. Be careful with monitoring though, as you can create a nasty feedback loop - turn everything down low until you think that you have it all set up correctly.

AHHH MY INTERNAL SOUND CARD DOES THIS!!!! I could not find the answer to this question at all, but I just stumbled upon it doing some research. Apparently the option is just hidden in Vista/7. Thanks for your help though!

1. Select "Sound" from the control panel.
2. Select the recording tab.
3. Right click on the background of the tab and choose "show disabled devices".
4. Right click on Stereo Mix and click enable.
5. Make Stereo Mix as your Standard
6. Now it should work, allowing you to record any sound your computer makes.
7. Start Cam Studio
8. Go to Options\ Audio Options for Speaker
9. Choose at Soundcard Device "Stereomix"
10. Go to Options and enable "Record audio from speakers"

Glad you got it figured out. I wonder why stereo mix is disabled (by default?). Your follow up will likely help someone else out down the line.
