Default What is this sound?

Panned to the left and doubling the bass part. Or maybe it just is the bass part.

Is that a horn (trombone) sound? Or is that just Paul's bass through a fuzz giving it almost the sound of reeds? Sometimes it just sounds like a fuzzy bass to me. Other times, it sounds like something doubling his bass.

I hear a piano doubling that line, too. But I'm wondering what else is going on.

If you were going to try to reproduce it, what would you use?

My first inclination is to think "Brass VST". If so, any good free ones?

And this one! "One unique contribution decided upon on this day was for Paul to play his Fender Jazz Bass through a fuzz box for the “Mean Mr. Mustard” section of the track, him having to manually switch the sound from the soothing clean tone used in the “Sun King” section when that particular time came." http://www.beatlesebooks.com/mean-mr-mustard

That's great stiff, thanx!!!

So, I wasn't the only one that thought it sounded like a tuba/trombone. But it seems to be just a bass through a fuzz. I got to play around with that. Thanx again!

Visibly, this was mentioned repeatedly from the first post.

Not paying much attention, just answering the OP question.
