Reaper Folder function muting all tracks in folder?
Hi,
Ever since I used reaper i haven't been able to properly use the folder function. Due to the sound of all the other tracks being muted in the folder. How do I fix this? Thank you!

that's kinda the function of a folder. it's like a buss that you can also use to organize. you can create an alternate send and disable sending to the parent in IO if that's what you want.

so your saying, even though im not muting any track at all, all of my tracks in the folder should automatically be muted? that doesn't make sense to me?

none of the tracks are actually getting muted but the folder. but they are all sending to the folder. that's what folders are. you can defeat it by creating alternate sends. i love folders for exactly the reason you don't.
er wait. are your tracks muted even if you DON'T mute their folder?

That sounds like a feedback loop, semikid.
Feedback loops break the latency correction -any send from the parent track to a child track (audio or MIDI) will do this, and so REAPER disables signal in any tracks in the loop until the loop is removed.
Extremely high levels (defult >+18dB) will trigger an auto-mute too, but I suspect you're sending MIDI or audio to a folder child track in this case.
I hope this is helpful.

^^^ Exactly. I didn't mute the main folder but all the tracks have no sound coming out, even though none of them are muted.

I just clicked no automatic muting after reading your comment. http://puu.sh/ih4Lr/5239aed040.png
unfortunately it hasn't fixed it.

You could also accidentally untick the "master/parent send" option in a Routing window of the tracks. This option should be ticked in order for folders to function properly.

you should definitely turn automatic muting back on if you value your ears and speakers. you will be able to easily see if it's kicked in because it simply mutes the master track.
also if it's feedback like p9 said, you should be able to fix it by disabling routing feedback in the project settings > advanced.

YES THANK YOU SO MUCH!! For some reason it was unticked... for anyone having the same issues as me all i did was tick "ALLOW FEEDBACK IN ROUTING" option under Project settings (alt-enter). http://puu.sh/iix42/c462f765bd.png

It's unticked by default. Feedback routing can give you problems with plugin delay compensation. The involved tracks may come up not perfectly synced to other tracks in the project.
It's better to avoid feedback routing if you don't absolutely need it. In most cases you can do without by using an extra track not inside the folder. If you absolutely need to send signal from a folder parent to child tracks inside the folder, you can still consider to uncheck master/parent send on the children and send the signal via a send to another track outside the folder.
Most questions about feedback routing are coming up because
a) people want to have a VSTi plugin on a folder track and the audio outs inside the folder. In those cases it's recommended and easy enough to keep the VSTi on an extra track inside the folder
b) people want to have MIDI input and audio output of multitimbral VSTi on the same track. Alas, there's no way around feedback routing in this case. If you care much about PDC and sync of your project the only solution I know is: just don't do that.

It's been a while haha. Anyways... Now that I've been using Kontakt and reaper for many years now.... I figured out the problem 3 years ago, but the real problem was this:
For some reason Reaper sometimes automatically unticks the master/parent send box on my kontakt midi tracks sometimes? I don't know why it does this? If anyone knows please enlighten me.

Either you accidentally alt+clicked it or accidentally ran an action. You can check the actions list to see if maybe you accidentally assigned a MIDI note to trigger it or something like that.
