Default RME. - High Sierra - REAPER

I have a good friend who has just updated his Macbook (not sure exactly the model) from Sierra to High Sierra. He was previously running a Digi002 rack with Protools but High Sierra has broken things.

He has REAPER installed on this Mac and it runs fine with the inbuilt sound but not with the 002r. The system doesn't see the 002r for inbuilt sounds either though and Protools is not running at all. The issue is clearly between High Sierra and the Digi002r.

Anyway, during our discussions on the phone about all this, he is seriously considering switching fully to REAPER and upgrading his audio interface (I recommended RME as a very happy UFX user myself) and he is able to get a very good deal on an RME Fireface 802.

Is anyone else here running an RME interface (preferably someone running something in the Fireface range) with High Sierra and REAPER at present? If so, how reliable is it under high Sierra for you?

Mac Mini and an RME Babyface. Bulletproof on everything from Mavericks to HS so far.

But now the novelty is over it is going back to Mavericks and getting sold with Logic Pro 9 and Office 2010 on it, including all cds dvds etc.
Macs are OK for now and again (I bought this lot to help a luddite buddy who can`t do anything but drive Logic Pro 9) but I coudnt afford a Mac as powerful as my PC & with the amount of VST1 I use I need the horsepower.

Thanks Ivan. That's what we're hoping to hear more of regarding High Sierra.
I'm with you on the price/performance of Mac vs PC though.

I don't think this is a Reaper problem but OSX.

My USB interface is not showing as a core audio device since upgrade to 10.13.2 , it works perfectly on my MacBook which is still running 10.13.1

The interface works perfectly when I boot into Windows 10 on my iMac.

It does say in the release notes for 10.13.2 that "improvements" have been made to the way OSX handles USB audio.

Not in my case as my interface is now invisible to OSX!!

Anyone else having trouble since the upgrade?

Sounds like Apple are making things difficult here.

Default RME UCX & High Sierra

I use an RME Fireface UCX with High Sierra on a 2015 macbook pro. Usually my plugin use is limited to some equalization, reverb and limiting, track count is mostly below 8. I mostly use this setup for live classical recordings running up to 3 hours non stop. Never had any problem.

The menu option went missing in 10.12 and is still missing in 10.13. Leading to speculation it was removed as a security feature (which doesn't make sense really). Anyway, this is the fix (manually selecting the "Always allow 3rd party" with a terminal command): sudo spctl --master-disable

Thanks again everyone. My friend ended up getting the Fireface 802. I'll post an update when I hear how the setup went.

Quick update to let everyone know the 802 is working fine with REAPER on High Sierra. Thanks everyone for your input.
