How do you Auto Trim/Split Items and Add a Pad in Front

How do you use Auto Trim/Split Items (or even Dynamic Split) to remove the silence out of a 2 hour speech and have the remaining parts stack up with a natural sounding pad of silence?

I'm currently using ReaGate as an FX to detect the silences, and I can't seem to get this to work so that it sounds natural to reduce an 8 second silence into a natural sounding ~500-1000ms pause... it sounds like the legal mumbo-jumbo on a commercial.

Now I just gotta figure out how to automate things between these two tools ("Auto Trim/Split Items", and "Xenakios/SWS: Reposition selected items..."), preferably without having to use AutoHotKey again.
