Default DevXXXX and Track Wiring View

I just read the notes on the dev numbering system for builds with features that may not make it into final versions and that raised a big question for me.

The Track Wiring feature is something I personally find extremely useful even in its current form. In fact, I find it so useful that I've started using pre release versions of REAPER as my main production system. I usually run those as a separate install for testing purposes only.

Is there any plans to develop this feature any time soon? I'm really hoping it doesn't get dropped all together. Of all the additions recently, this is one of the ones that I have become most enthusiastic about. I have discovered a few routing problems in a couple of my larger projects that I most likely might not have found without the Wiring View.
It is especially useful for third order Ambisonic projects (which 90 percent of my work is these days). Third order Ambisonics uses 16 audio channels per track and it is easy to make a routing mistake that isn't easily spotted without the Track Wiring view.

Not sure I should say that, but current API allows to port wiring view into ReaScript, so depending on what Justin|schwa will say about that here, I can build something like this in lua. At least ReaPack/mpl_WiredChain was(is) a lot more complex to implement from API/GUI side.

yeah Dave - i'm with you. haven't had a need yet for wiring anything, due to i'm not a 'bedroom producer', with respect for any who is one - overdubs which i do @home, won't need wiring.

while now i'm trying to dig a bit deeper into reaper, i came across track wiring diagram. besides any other options, IMO a good starting point to get an understanding, at least slightly how routing in reaper works, worth to keep and maybe to improve if the devs have spare time to do so. i guess i'll take that if comes a need - maybe someday. who knows.

GREAT !

IMHO it's very appropriate to have this as an extension of some kind, and hence strictly optional for those who might find it useful.

Of course - as always - It's valid to state, that it needs to be provided via ReaPack, include some kind of documentation, and ReaPack should be automatically installed with Reaper and predominately visible for new users (as the wiring view seems especially useful for those).

I don't think that wiring view is going to go away, but it's a bit stalled for now, we'll return to it at some point (before it goes into a release).

I also very exited for that feature... I see some great potential! I use dev version for this reason too, and new feature TCP plugins UI

I hope at some point it will get resumed... Great to hear from Justin that it will get resumed at some point <3

Good to hear there's development planned. Thanks for confirming.

I'd be very happy to donate for you to create something that will keep us going until further native development occurs.

Node routing is essential thing for some of us but it's needed a new design to be really handy and useful.

If a v6 release is the plan, then hopefully in the initial v6 release cycle as a new v6 feature.
I certainly wouldn't complain if it was added prior to v6 though.

I don't think the devs will add something huge before v6.

I agree. Especially given how close the current version number is to 6.
My final comment in my previous reply was more of a "glass half full" best case scenario thought.

5.971, 5.98, 5.981, 5.99, 5.991, 5.995, 5.999. I think no more versions will appear before 6.

One certainly can't complain about the life of a license. REAPER isn't just a bargain price upfront.

The magical wonders of floating-point

So 32bit-FP is the limit. The highest possible 5.999999-versionnumber available is the last one before 6.
