Default Memories of painful piano lessons

For pianists who had to struggle with certain exercises...
(Recorded with Pianoteq, tinkered in Reaper)

Nice to listen to; reminiscent of baroque musical phrases. Not sure what is happening starting at 1 minutes 30 seconds though. Memories that need healing before being musical, perhaps.

It's just a late revenge against bad memories that could have taken me away from music seven decades ago...

Surfacing late, but to be honored altogether! Music is such a creative and expressive outlet.

I need to play piano again

And if you have the chords or progression types used at 1:30 I'd love to know if you just came up with it or wrote out some sort of poly tonal phrase

You totally nailed that aesthetic

This harmonic progression at 1'30 is completely random, that's what falls under my fingers, even if it means tinkering with it in Reaper if I feel that it sounds too good.
If it can help you, here is the MID file :

https://ahp.li/a867a41e1b55c677a7b2.mid

Set the Reaper project ruler to minutes:seconds and forget measures and beats, I don't use them...
And I use a special preset from Pianoteq, Ant. Petrof Dreamy that I customized a Iittle bit.

Wow thanks a lot! I've been studying polytonality so I am always eager to see how it works. Trying to work out some sort of system as to why it sounds good and so far it seems to boil down to a good melody/chord melody over top of a mostly chromatic bass line which repeats motifs. Seems to hold true.

Beautiful.

I'm listening to some of the other tracks on your Bandcamp et la suite page. On track 5 now... La valse patraque. That one's my favorite, so far. If Satie and Milhaud had collaborated it might have sounded like this.

Thanks Timothy for these gratifying references
I've just updated this "Valse patraque" (reworked and a bit shortened).

Hey Gérard, it occured to me that this piece would also sound great with a harp sound. Don't you think ?
