Default Export/Render Audio while recording

Is there a way to split a clip and export/render it to the desktop while recording? I often need to export small chunks of audio from a previous take while in record.

Possibly if you used more than one instance of Reaper, but AFAIK you won't be able to edit the same items you are recording. Previously recorded items should be editable.

A workaround would be to use Idle rendering, which allows you to build up a render queue and render them all in one go using idle CPU (so you can still use your computer, though not the instance of Reaper that is rendering).

I can edit previously recorded items (though Undo doesn't work in Record), but I can't render those edited items to disk.

Glueing items works while recording.

(maybe used in combination with X-Raym's script "Glue selected items independently" for convenience.)

Thanks, Gluing works during record, which is promising. How best to export that item to a folder? Also, does gluing bake the fades into the audio?

Afaik it's not possible to direct the glued items to a specific folder, they land in the project folder or in the audio folder if specified in Project settings -> 'Media' tab -> Path to save media files.

Fades seem to be not baked in (wasn't aware of this as I rarely use glueing myself, but just tried.)

Hm, so maybe not that helpful for your use case.

It looks like files can be copied from the Project Bay during recording.

Edit: Can Lua scripting access the Project Bay commands?

2nd Edit: for anyone interested I've asked this question in a new thread over in the ReaScript area.
