Default Slow pick up midi controller

Sometimes I have to turn the encoders on my axiom pro for almost a minute before the assigned knob starts turning. I see the track is receiving midi messages and it's not all the time. Anyone have a suggestion what could be causing this? Thanks

If you have it set up (in Actions) for 'soft takeover', you need to sweep the knob up (or down) until the received value crosses the current value fader/knob value inside Reaper.

Thanks, without soft take over it does pick up immediately. I do prefer soft take over though, guess I'll keep turning and turning knobs

Slightly confused here - Soft takeover is intended for absolute mode only.

I understand "rotary encoders" to be endless controls (so you can rotate them one way or the other for ever). Shouldn't you be using one of the Relative modes in Reaper's MIDI Learn?

That makes sense, but when I select relative, the mapped parameter jumps position. I'll try some more, probably it'll end up that I was confused 😆

I saw rhis in the Axiom User Manual:
Quote:
Right programmable “endless” knobs featuring non-détented encoders with customizable acceleration curves. These knobs can be configured to use any of seven popular increment/decrement methods to ensure compatibility with virtually any application
that supports “endless” encoders
Those methods are (from Control Assignment List | page 4):
  • Rel. Bin Offset
  • Rel. 2’s Comp
  • Signed bit 1
  • Signed bit 2
  • Single Step -/+
  • RPN Rel. -/+
  • NRPN Rel. -/+
You may need to configure the Axiom to use a suitable method.

It sounds like a mechanical failing is the likely cause. The potentiometer needs replacement.

Google "axiom pro potentiometer" for servicing or replacement components.

Thanks for your replies, I'll play with the axiom settings and report back if I find something that does exactly what I want. Don't think I need to replace any parts as everything works fine my other daw

This detail should have been in your first post.
That's good though.
