Added it to the list at the bottom. Reformatted it to be a little more eye-catching. Voted too.

This is probably not viewed with as much necessity as the majority of other FRs in your list, but I though I would throw it out there.
Improved Cross-fade Display
No worries if it's not up to par on the importance scale.

Updated.
The metering FR is up to a whopping 43 votes already. Keep 'em coming.
The Freeze FR also got a nice bunch of votes. Don't forget to tell everyone about these FRs, so they get a chance to support them or not.

I moved from Logic on the PC. To Cubase. But using Cubase (have v5.5 64bit) is still a crap-shoot from a stability standpoint.
I am very pleased with Reaper.. Especially excited about the recent MIDI enhancements... That said: There is a wonderful feature that both Logic and Cubase offer (I believe it's been mentioned in the feature request thread) is
the ability to "capture" MIDI into the current selected track even if "record" is not enabled.
Logic calls it "Capture Last Take As Record". Cubase "Retroactive Record"
Many of my tunes originated from just jamming. Hitting on something interesting. And then capturing the performance.
This is a brilliant feature that I hope (hope, hope) Reaper will add

Trust me, the guys coding Reaper don't care about live performance capabilities. Been there/done that ad nauseum. You're wasting your time.

Yes, EvilDragon... I owned a Fantom X6 for a while. One of the main reasons I purchased it was for this feature.
+1 for "Retroactive Record" "Capture Last Take" "Skip Back Sampling" etc.

Bump. Will update this tomorrow evening. Keep the votes rolling in people.
I'm sure we'll be on to v4 in a couple of months, so it's time to vote for those important requests to let the devs know what you'll need, and don't forget to post why YOU need it in the discussion threads of those requests.

Scrolling waveform display/centered playback cursor is probably my top wish.

Scrolling the entire arrangement display would probably take some simplification of the drawing.
Perhaps a 'mixing display' of some kind. You could probably run that above the mixer vertically too. Simplified. No envelopes or special live envelope drawing that is currently employed but a simplified version of a volume envelope perhaps, and on top of the track only.
Would you be able to live without editing while transport is running ?

Cubase does it fantastically, and has great detail.

So would I. To me, it's essential. I can work around not having things like track freezing etc, but not having a notation system makes MIDI work a bit like pulling teeth for a non-keyboard player like me.

i still would like to see this, too. i think that people might not understand exactly what it is.

hard as it may be, assume for a second that reaper decided it was going have a dedicated eq/mixer view.
now cockos, being the innovative aces they are, really go all out and take it one step further...
they build 3 accurately modeled consoles natively into the program: an SSL style, a neve style, and an API or a Trident style. in options/preferences you can pick any one of them. (or of course none at all for those who prefer)
and just to be clear, these aren't "themes," but actual models. you don't just get the look and feel, you get "the sound" from the get go without the need for waves/URS/nebula etc.
i would love that (and i know others who would too)
some of you, well, not so much
cheers
|
i hope that cockos stays out of the 'modeling' game. it's full of hyperbole (no offense meant toward you).

Yep. It's like that. Same in PT. Touch-take-over, bypass for a/b'ing and even selective commit. Native recall of Preview or all track snapshots is part of such a package.
The time savings will be immense, not to mention some people actually using automation creatively without giving up.
With Preview mode, the arm/disarm marathon necessary at the moment will become less necessary, not that a read and write suspend panel won't do that as well.

Bumped. Will be udpated tomorrow.
Already 10 votes on the Preview Mode.
For anyone interested in taking a look at this at a deeper level, check out the manual of Protools 8, and that of Nuendo 5. I've packed them up in to a nice little archive for everyones convenience. In the Protools manual, read page 950, in the Nuendo manual start reading on page 239.
They're not overly long sections and convey the message quite well, though I must say the Protools manual reads a little better. If you have any questions, please post them in the discussion thread of the request.

PREVIEW MODE has jumped to 16 votes in just 12 hours. Keep them coming and tell all your mixer friends.
Metering enhancements has bumped up to a healthy 80 votes. I know a lot of people like good metering ballistics and displays. This was created for your benefit, so go vote for it.

Related to the Score view, here are two mockups i made back in the day for the sonar forum. Im not using cake anymore but the ideas can be cool for reaper to show how it can be good for composing

Hi Dannii. Your comment, beyond the lol, makes the point. Notation has the power to communicate what the piano roll cant.
