How, if at all, can I use this piece of equipment?

Years ago I purchased a Roland BOSS BR900CD mixer and I still have it and am wondering if there is any use that I might have for it?

All I am doing is singing to pre-recorded music.

Any ideas?

It's a digital recorder rather than just a mixer.

Basically, if you are happy recording on your PC then it probably isn't going to be of any use to you. If you can think of a use for a mobile recording rig, then it will be useful.

I have a small high-quality hand-held recorder (Olympus L14) with three built in mics. I wander the fields round here singing new stuff I think of into it & occasionally snippets of "found sound" - mostly bird calls or my dog barking at said birds.

The good part is that I can transfer this stuff into reaper when I get home very easily. Keep it if this would be a handy use for you.

It looks a bit bulky for that, and I don't know if it would run on batteries.

Handheld recorders like your Olympus (I have a Zoom H4n) are more useful than an 8 track digital recorder these days, for my money anyway.

You could use it as a transport control. The play, record, stop, etc. buttons are sent out on the MIDI output. Unfortunately, the fader values are not sent, so it can't be used as a controller beyond that.

Philbo: But it IS a use for the gear he owns. Although like you say it would really only be useful for recording indoor noodlings.

It's 44,1 kHz only, but 24 bit. Still useful. The only problem I see, is it records on SD cards and these are getting pretty expensive. Still, there's also an optical, 2 channel, output, so it can interface with today's world without problem.
