Default please feedback.. first post

Hi All,
I purchased Reaper a couple of month ago with the goal to re-mix, re-master a number of original songs from the band I am currently in.
The row material was 16bit tracks from the multitracks recording sessions taken with a Korg D1600.
The Mics used for drums and voice were not adequate (SM58/57).
Guitars and bass were DI'ed.

I'd sincerely appreciate if some of you could pass me a judge about the resulting streamed audio, that you can find here
http://www.ondealfa.com

Of course I'd be glad to share all the technical details in case of somebody's interest...
Thanks!
Regards
Luca

You have done a very good job of using Reaper to come up with a solid, balanced, musical outcome. There were several places (on Persi, but less on the others) where it seemed the vocal was overly peaked/distorted, but I would have to listen on more sets of speakers to tell for sure. In frequency coverage, it seems there is a lot more highs than lows. Congrats, keep going.

Very nice mix... Very 'nimble' plus excellent compositions.
Vocals seem a little high in some places.

Thanks for the kind comments and ecouragement words. They help me keeping focused to the task (two more songs ASAP and more to come).

And thanks for the valuable inputs:
I percieved too that the voice was loud sometimes.
Moreover, I used for the mastering step a preset (Master 4) from Limiter No.6 free VST plugin(quite heavy handed).
Also some bad overall volume fluctuations are present.
I assumed (maybe wrongly) that streamed audio should be quite loud...quality suffered a lot.
The pre-mastering mix BTW, is very smooth.

Maybe it's OT here, but what would be the mastering chain of your choice for this kind of music?

Thanks to all again
Enjoy Reaper!
Regards,
Luca

The instrumentation is mixed quite nicely as it is. I would suggest some manual riding of the vocal volume.

Hi,
As a followup, pls. find on our site (see signature) the songs fully reworked + two new: "Notte" and "Supernova", all mp3 192Kbs CBR.

I lowered vocals generally and mastered just to average around K12 (actually a bit above).

I took away a number of non essential effects.
Now the songs to me sound cleaner, a tad lifeless, tamed maybe...

Anyway I was suprised by the quality and stability of Reaper as an application. Also the support was great and very fast.
And I used no more than 30% of the features, I think.
Very good!
Regards,
Luca
