EDIT:
Just read
this pre-release thread and realized this is intended behavior and my FR below is probably going to be out of scope for a while.
System:
REAPER 5.70 x64
MAC OS X 10.12.6
Automation items take precedence over envelope points when marquee selecting depending on where the cursor lands, even when you are confined to the active envelope, making it difficult to copy both a section of an envelope and that section's automation items.
Steps to duplicate:
Create a lane of automation (problem observable with both track or FX envelopes)
Make some edits to the underlying envelope
Add an automation item somewhere in the middle of that automation
Attempt to use "marquee select items" to select the following, ensuring that the mouse's final position is in the Automation Item sliver of the envelope lane:
- just envelope points
- automation items
- envelope points and automation items simultaneously
When doing the first action, envelope points are selected. When performing the last action, automation items will take precedence, leaving envelope points unselected.
Potential FR: Marquee select items allows selection between media items, automation items, and envelope points, regardless of active envelope or focus
Currently if a user wants to lasso and edit a small selection of media items, envelope points, and automation items (shown below), they have to perform the same edit multiple times, with a combination of different actions (such as "Envelope: delete all points in time selection") each time focusing on a different lane. Can we allow for all the mouse modifier "marquee select items" actions to select all these different items, regardless of the active envelope?
Use case:
Deleting a small section of items and automation within a much larger project. This means the user can't simply clear a whole time selection. Ideally the user could just lasso select every point, item, and automation item in the section, then Remove them.
