Default Crossfaded Items in Lanes - possible?

Hi all

Is it possible to show two consecutive items in a track in separate lanes?

For example, item A is followed by item B, and they overlap slightly so they would crossfade.

Can I somehow get those two items to display in separate lanes, so that I could then extend the right edge fade of item A over item B without simply making the crossfade longer (effectively making them temporarily on "different tracks" as far as trimming the edges without crossfades appearing is concerned). Then return to the standard view of a single lane, and the crossfade would then reflect how much the tracks now overlap.

I guess I could create a Macro which did something like this after selecting an item (the second of the two consecutive ones to be adjusted):

Duplicate track on which selected item is placed.
Delete all items on new track.
Move selected item down to new track.

Then another one once I've finished tweaking the items (later item selected):

Move item up one track.
Select next track (which is now empty) and delete

I just hope there's a more elegant way.... :-)

Thanks
Andy

Ignore me, I was being an idiot and hadn't got my settings right.

I can see how to make this work in the way I want now. Just need a clever macro/script to accomplish the second part of what this was for.

no need for a macro, simply create a shortcut or a button in the toolbar for the "show overlapping items in lane" action.
I couldn't work without this action!
And you can tweak the number of lanes in the preferencies, sometimes i need more than 2 lines, so i simply open the preferencies, modify the number of lanes I need and click ok, do what i need to do and then re-tweak the number to 2.

...

I think it must be great to have the option in the CROSSFADE settings to show the actual crossfades in one lane ( track ) not on top of eachother but one above and one below.
this could create more visual benefits
