Default Show volume automation on top of media item?

I'm sure I have seen a Kenny video, where the volume automation is super imposed over the media item - instead of in a separate automation lane/track.

Is this possible?
or was I dreaming...

So there seems to be no preference settings for this?

That works here when I start a new track but the controls for fx param automation are not usable. Like the wet control. The graphics are all funky when I turn on the UI. It would be nice to have the controls clearly usable.

Preferences > Editing Behavior > Envelope Display > [] Show new envelopes in separate envelope lane

Does not work for me. I still have the automation in lanes below the media item instead of superimposed over the top.

There are actions to toggle the view, for example,
Envelope: Toggle display in separate lane for selected envelope

I had to create a new track after changing the setting for volume automation to show up in the same track as the media item.
