Default Key Signature

When I start reaper I add a track and begin adding notes. At some point the ability to use any note I choose changes and a key signature (C, D, D# . . .Etc.) takes over at the bottom of the transport. How do I make the key signature not change and remain where all notes can be used even if they do not sound good or in tune. Or better yet, allow me to https://forum.cockos.com/images/attach/bmp.gifpick which note I want to use in the chromatic scale.

Your image link is messed up.

Are using the notation editor (sheet music) or the normal MIDI editor?
