poorly mixed renders to youtube
Hi,
I am finding my mixes sound good in headphones DT770/HD650 using Audient EVO8 but when I hear them after being rendered with the standard settings for ffmpeg video they sound terrible. The biggest things I hear is that FX such as reverb are far too much after rendering but fine in the originating mix.
Settings are mostly same as fresh reaper setup nothing particularly changed to make this happen.
Does anyone have good advice on how to get the files that come out of reaper sound as good as inside reaper universe?
Thanks

Be sure to render your video with WAV or PCM audio and then let YouTube encode from there. I wanna say default settings are AAC which means it’ll get lossily-encoded twice. Not great!

The only option I have is Vorbis. There doesn't seem to be a way to change it.

You should be able to select this option if you included FFMPEG with Reaper:
If not, follow this guide here:
Hope this helps!

Perfect! Yea once you installed FFMPEG you should see all your options. Not sure why FFMPEG isn’t just included in reaper since it’s an open project…

Follow this guide here:
Be sure to name the output file with the .mp4 extension as well to export to an MP4 container format.

No problem! Took me a minute to figure out you have to add the extension in the name to get the file container you want

FFmpeg itself is open source but some of the formats may be covered by patents. I know the MP3 patents have expired and some formats are open source but others may still be under patent.
This is from the FFmpeg website:
Quote:
Q: Does FFmpeg use patented algorithms?
A: We do not know, we are not lawyers so we are not qualified to answer this. Also we have never read patents to implement any part of FFmpeg, so even if we were qualified we could not answer it as we do not know what is patented. Furthermore the sheer number of software patents makes it impossible to read them all so no one (lawyer or not) could answer such a question with a definite no, those who do lie. What we do know is that various standards FFmpeg supports contain vague hints that any conforming implementation might be subject to some patent rights in some jurisdictions, examples for such statements are:...
Q: Bottom line: Should I be worried about patent issues if I use FFmpeg?
A: Are you a private user working with FFmpeg for your own personal purposes? If so, there is remarkably little reason to be concerned.
Q: Is it perfectly alright to incorporate the whole FFmpeg core into my own commercial product?
A: You might have a problem here...

It's here: " archive of the Zeranoe site"
Change Static to Shared and Click Download Build at that site or here:
DOWNLOAD BUILD
OR you can get the very latest Shared build for v4.4 here:
DOWNLOAD FFMPEG SHARED v4.4
