I like the sound design features inside Bitwig.

It would be great if we could sync Reaper with Bitwig.

Why should any DAW manufacturer implement a feature that is named for a competitor ?

First some kind of independent standardizing organization should be formed, fix the features and rename the thingy in some neutral way.

(e.g. happily ARA is not called "Melodyne link" and VST is not called "Steinberg Link".)

The technology is just called "Link", and it's an open standard.

And Ableton is a company not a DAW. The DAW they make is called "Live", so it would be like calling "ARA", "Celemony ARA" (which people do say)

Also, REAPER isn't really a competing product to Ableton Live. They are basically at completely different ends of the DAW spectrum.

Here is a big list of software that supports link:

"Link" is a name for thousands of different things and does not clearly denote "a technology" (which acronyms like "MIDI", "VST" or "ARA" do rather nicely).
Never heard anybody say "Celemony ARA", as in most cases it it rather obvious that it's not a parrot what is meant.
Of course you are right that Reaper and Ableton are not really competitors if somebody has a dedicated usage case in mind. But supposedly both are registered trade names.

Link in Reaper would allow me to sample-perfectly sync Max Msp with Reaper. I have been dreaming for tight sync like this for many years.

I feel like for Reaper, it's the super compatible and hackable DAW for me. Link would do well for Reaper and could bring a lot of Ableton users into the fold.

+1 for this

I don't care what it is called. It works. That is the important thing. Discuss the name in the Ableton forum.

at this point 86.67% of users which answered to the poll would use this feature. Is quite impressive!

Ableton Link is super fun for jamming but it also has cool practical uses as well.
In this video this guy show how you can use two computers running link to sync a playback and recording computer in a two system setup.
https://youtu.be/z8FXL5e6cQA?t=686

You can use link to record in two locations separately but because everything wirelessly syncs to the shared clock you can line those recordings up later no problem.

Ableton Link is now supported in Ableton Live, Bitwig and as of the latest update Avid Pro Tools. So it's becoming a really useful tool for real time collaboration among different platforms.

Default yeah.. but

reaper stays and constantly grows in just being amazing! thanks for programming and sharing!

i got ReaBlink installed and running, the toggles changes mirror in the monitor window. only when I start "play" on my other computer being in the link session (tried bitwig, rekordbox) reaper closes. I followed it to be ReaBlink_StartStop.lua, when I run this action reaper closes.

any ideas? :-P
greetings henrk

Hi! When you enable ReaBlink Monitor script, there's no need to use those example scripts; ReaBlink Monitor enables the so-called Puppet mode of the extension, which should capture basic REAPER transport commands directly and sync REAPER to other Link Session software and/or devices.

Nice to hear! It's also scriptable, so you can build your own Ableton compatible 'My personal way of doing Link with REAPER' if basic operation of ReaBlink doesn't feel complete or stable enough.
