Bugs
1. Reaper uses incorrect notation font in some cases
( http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...60&postcount=4)
2. Scrubbing jumps to future measure
( http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...6&postcount=22)
3. Move edit cursor left/right by grid action does not work as expected
4. If you set Grid to a triplet setting, and have Notes: Grid -then you will get triplets in notation. However pauses are not added automatically if you'd manually enter a note.
5. If you zoom and scroll a bit (or sometimes just add or move around notes) the play cursor is shying away from the mouse cursor when trying to grab it.
6.The changes from 1/8 to 1/16 and back are really buggy. No proper Staff beaming and it results in wrong musical measures. try it in 3/4. You enter a 1/8 Note, change to 1/16 and can enter the next note a 1/16 later while the 1/8 is still there.
7. When you change the visibility of tracks, the staff view changes only after mouse over.
8. Correct rhythmic limits/construction when editing note lengths
( http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...8&postcount=55)
9. Alt-drag, ctrl-drag, shift-drag inserted text (f,pp..etc) crashes Reaper.
http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...0&postcount=67

http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=109
20. Inconsistent behavior when dragging notes backward
( http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=111)

http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=202
31. Allow clef changes per midi item. For example, the track starts in bass clef for 2 or 3 bars, but then the range increase to where tenor, alto or soprano clef becomes more appropriate. This helps keeps notes on one staff instead of numerous ledger lines. This is somewhat common for instruments with wide ranges (like viola, cello, and some wind instruments).

This is awesome, thanks schwa for your effort. Is there an automaticable scroll view for the notation editor in the pipeline?

I suggest that the following FR (from the list at the start of the thread) be updated to request Quantize Display as a *note* property of individual notes, rather than a global setting. (Or perhaps one can have a global setting as well as a note property, with the latter overriding the former.)

Having notes set to 1/32nd with rests set to 1/8th, for example, would change the first image in the example above to the final result whilst still allowing for runs of short notes. For example a run of staccato 1/16ths (which would have a bunch of 1/32nd rests in between with QD set to 1/32nd) and a 1/32nd ornament.
Small gaps are part and parcel of playing, but small rests are much less common.

Just wanna say that I'm loving this feature! very easy to place notes, looks and works great.
as others have said a Printing/PDF feature would make this the Best thing ever.
Edit: the scrolling is a bit odd. would it be better for simple scroll to move up/down, and ctrl+scroll to scale it instead?
Works great here!

btw: Really looking forward to the official release,
as I'm in a composing-phase of a song.
Reaper seems much better than Musescore in adjusting notes across bars and moving things around a little.

IMO the true measure of a score editor is how easy it is to fix things when you don't enter the notes perfectly the first time: inserting time in between notes, adjusting values and rests and ties, moving things around, inserting a measure with a different time signature than the others, ensuring that things don't go haywire when notes temporarily overlap each other, etc.
I personally support any and all energies toward that end. :-)

Congratulations! The editor is being intuitive and agile. Brilliant!
I think it would be nice if the durations of the notes displayed in the Score Editor may be independent of the Piano Roll. Get cleaner scores.

That may or may not be beyond the intended scope of the notation editor in REAPER. At present, the notation editor provides a view of persistent MIDI data, which you can edit. But the usual purpose of written notation is to provide a guide for the performer to interpret. Should we provide a faithful* view of the data, or let the user make individual cosmetic edits that only affect the notation view without changing the underlying data? For now, we are focusing on getting the faithful view correct.
* There is already display quantization, to prevent freely played MIDI as being displayed as an endless series of tied 256th notes, so one could argue that we're already not displaying the underlying data faithfully.

Agreed. Loading customized note names text file could determine what notes are triggered in percussion view? No idea how. Hopefully GM and note names file by default option in prefs.

just for when you want different note values on top of each other. like a bass note on a piano ringing longer than the top note.
This is what I'm trying to do (from sibelius)
currently when you try to add a new note value on top or below a note. it changes the current note value as well. they are tied together.

now I can't figure out how I did it. here's what happens when I try to add a different note value above or below a note with a different note value. it does still reflect the old value. but as a tied note. not like in the sibelius pic. although I was able to randomly do it in reaper the same way it looks in sibelius but couldn't do it again. at least it's possible

If you want to notes to be displayed as separate voices, rather than tied notes, use the voice dropdown at the bottom of the editor, or the context menu action, to set the notes to different voices.

Use voices to achieve it. Just like you do in Sibelius. :-)

I think you can just use set them to different voices to overcome this. I think there are top and bottom voices at the moment.
But ideally it would detect this automatically or maybe another option at least have 4 voices as this is the normal minimum in choirs:
SATB

Four-part harmony

Yes, you're right I didn't realize there already are 3 voices in the treble and 3 in the bass. Having 4 voices per staff is nothing I think is really necessary, maybe more a matter of how far into notation editor territory they want to take it.
It's already starting to look dangerous for a few established notation editors I wont name

Sorry for my absence lately. I'm going to update the bugs and FR lists this weekend just for documentation purposes.
Feature request:
Increase the number of articulations to include tremolos, half step trills, whole step trills, left hand pizz (plus), snap pizz, harmonic, up bow, down bow, pedal up, pedal down... And maybe a few others

Concerning Items. Start notation view on bar one for items anywhere in the project? Right now it gives previous non existent bars.
I also vote for a virtual guitar fretboard on the bottom option. We have a virtual keyboard. This would be great for guitar players to punch in notes using the fretboard.

And if you end up adding tablature.. Maybe do it the opposite of the other notation programs and require inputting of notes directly into the tab portion and then the notation part reflects. As opposed to the opposite.. Sibelius is wonky. You have to input notes in notation first and then copy paste or whatever into tab. Which is really wonky.
Having tab implemented this way would draw guitar players away from other bloated programs and into reapers arms.

Excellent. and dynamics markings affecting actual note velocities! add accent to bass drum on beats 2 and 4 and the velocity is louder on those beats on playback. then some functions to accent every specified beat for the duration of the track or selected bars!
Accent beats 2 and 4 on selected tracks. would be Amazing.
with boxes for each beat and off beat determined by grid. so you could accent every 1 + beat or the up beat on say 3.. so many uses for having this type of workflow.
8th note grid
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
accent every + on 4
and something like randomize accents on random beats and so on
and if we can load user created plugins for this later on.. we could create common and not so common characteristics from specif genres that deal with accents. Jazz.. accent the 2 and 4 and so on. that sort of stuff..
Stuff like this concerning sustain pedals for piano would be Great. add sustain markings for down beats for selected bars. and anything played on the down beat gets sustained.
Sostenuto sustain selected notes while other notes do not sustain

When working in a "items" context
Can we please get a option for the item to open up in the notation editor at bar 1?
Regardless of what bar the item is at in the arrange view?
The default is perfect but it would be AWESOME to have the option when putting smaller parts and ideas together for later.

How do you hide keyswitch notes?
I'm just tryin'out the notation editor, I think it's going to be terrific.
However, what can you do if you use keyswitches? On the score it means random notes super high or super-low, which makes the editor unusable...
Is it possible to hide notes above or below a user-set treshold? If not, would dev' consider implementing it? Do you guys think it's a good idea? I think it's a must.

This is in fact a hotly discussed feature - you can already set a maximum number of ledger lines above and below to display, which is almost the same thing, but the end goal is to have keyswitches display as/triggered by specific notation events - staccato markings triggering the keyswitch for staccato samples, "pizz" triggering the key switch for pizzicato etc.

There is a "hide" option in the right-click context menu, which can be used to hide keyswitch notes.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this has been answered. I tried to search it but no reply (:
I was wondering if we can directly set our chords to a beat when we write it? For example I write a C chord and can say right click and assign it to say a 16th beat or so on....?
Cheers, Jeff

I don't understand the question... what exactly do you want to do?
