Default Microphone Setup

I'm using a Roland Rubix 22 Interface with my mic plugged into 2R, but the recording on Reaper is very low sound. Is there a way to raise is to normal?

What mic are you using? Generally the preamps in interfaces are appropriate for condenser mics, so if you are using a dynamic mic you may find a lack of clean gain available. Most people use something like a triton fethead or other inline preamp for dynamic mics and passive ribbons. If you are using a condenser mic, your mic may be having a cardio-infarction, or your gain setting is incorrect. Give us a little more info…

Phantom power is on? What gain setting? Same problem with either input? Perhaps some inadvertent setting in the interface control software?

I push both buttons whenever I record with my mic (on Audacity). My sens 1L is at 1 O'c/sens R at 12. My output is at 3 O'c.

Does my mic need to be in the first input?

And you've set up the driver accordingly? Is it a laptop? Any chance you record the internal microphone?

It works fine on Audacity. No, a desktop. Is there a way to change it from internal if it is set to that?

Go to options/preferences and see what you have listed as audio device. Make sure your Roland is selected and that the inputs and outputs are correct (ie, not all set to just channel 1).

ASIO vs. 2

first: 1 Rubix
last: 2 Rubix

I think you indicated the mic and cable are working properly in audacity?
Have you tried the mic in channel 1 of the Roland?
Perhaps you could see if there is an updated driver for the Roland unit, or try using ASIO4all instead of the Roland ASIO driver.

Audacity doesn`t use ASIO.
Unless you hand compile a specific version of the code to do so.

Did you try using the 1st input instead of the second yet?
If that doesn`t work AND you have the phantom power switched on, one other thought. You say you press BOTH buttons. Hope this does not mean you are also pressing the HiZ button, as that affects sensitivity in terms of plugging things like guitars in!
No idea what effect that would have on a mic plugged in & using Phantom power, but at least try NOT pressing the HiZ one.

Ok, only pressing the 48V button helped a bit, but the sound still isn't high enough. I'll have to stick with recording with Audacity.

I appreciate everybody's help.
