where to install an .so plugin?
Been having this issue with the CollaB3 plug in the installation.
Particularly in where to place it so Reaper will scan it and be able to use it. I've tried the default folders that are listed under the Reaper options, however Reaper does not scan them. Well, sorry let me re-phrase that, it doesn't scan the .SO plug. The standalone version works fine, but for some reason (maybe it's the wrong folder???) the .SO is not being scanned. Any suggestions? |

It should be in /home/user/.vst (the dot means its a hidden folder so you need Ctrl+H to see it, you know that already)
Look if it missing some libraries. I got this tip from JamesPeters when I had problem with Harrison's 32Channel plugin: **What library is missing?** ldd (filename) In my case I was missing libcurl-gnutls Hope that helps a little

Native Linux VST plugins should be in the .vst and .vst3 folder of your home directory.
Native Linux LV2 plugins should be in the .lv2 folder of your home directory, but sometimes installers will place them elsewhere. I added the paths /usr/lib/lv2 and /usr/local/lib/lv2 for LV2 plugins that didn't ask me where to drop the .so file. |

Thanks Glenn and Tobbe
@Tobbe - Yeah that libcurl-gnutls got me once before, so JUST to make sure I checked in Add/Remove and it is installed. All I have in Home is .VST3 (and in that, the Yabridge folder). Should I create a .VST folder perhaps? |

The .vst and .vst3 folder (no caps BTW or they won't be found) are the normal locations for native Linux VST2 and VST3 plugins. If you have some native Linux VST2 plugins they should normally be in the .vst folder.

I just installed it and I got a question where I wanna install it. I choose:
/home/tobbe/.vst and it ends up in Reaper as is should. Yes, if you don't have .vst in your home directory, create it. Make sure it also is in Reaper VST path in Preferences/Plug-Ins/VST Mine look like this: /home/tobbe/.vst;/home/tobbe/.vst3;/home/tobbe/VSTPlugins/ I have some Wine plugins in VSTPlugins folder It's a bit no responding, cant hit any keys on it. Maybe try more later.

haha, well got it working but was a bit underwhelmed - too much inherent noise artefacts even at lower volumes - and no distortion control.
Good for a free one, but VB3 still kills it. Albeit it's a VST Thanks again guys for the help, as it turned out to no avail, but I felt I needed to at least try it. |

That is quite nice for a little freebie - I sorta like the no presets, makes you become a little creative, cool!
I'll keep it in the list. |

setBfree is probably better than you think it is. Click on the shiny thing to the left of the "?" at the top right. Hover over the output transformer on the lower left. There are more config options than anyone should ever need.
Oh yeah, and you can rotate the view in 3D (in steps). Click on the "?" to see the default keys to do so. I agree that CollaB3 could use a bit more control to avoid excessive percussive clicking (and maybe a couple other options), plus its CPU use is significantly higher than setBfree. With some EQ to darken the sound, setBfree can sound very similar (maybe even identical, but I never cared to try that much since it's easily in the same ballpark for quality). |
