One Mic And A Drumset

Hallo for Everyone!

There is some tune that previously been recorded with midi drums. Finally I took my PC to drummer's house to replace midi track with real drums

There are only few moments that are perfectly in time, but this is not a final version. I just wanted to know what we can do with only one SM57 placed in front of a drum set. How it has mixed? Here you are:

Man that is pretty amazing!! Your tone and the room sound fits the vibe of the song very very well. I thought the guitar solo a bit too loud. No one would ever believe you did these drums with one mic! I almost don't

Where did you place the mic?

Thanks for the nice words

As I remember the snare is Premier with Evans but I am not sure of the series - maybe Artist? I'm not a drummer

I used an old rule for recording jazz kit: mic was placed in front of the kick, hight of hi-hat and pointed to snare. I made a few experiments with the distance and it was about 80 - 100 cm to the front of the kick.

(Your placement is very similar to what I do with single mic setups, which I really like.)

Hi! Thanks again!

The amp for rhythm and solo was Monacor GAT-1250R - tube 50W combo with 12" speaker - my 'home' equipment. Chorus rhythm was doubled with Marshall JCM800 + 1960AX (my 'live' equipment). Both mic'ed with Shure SM57.

But what I really like is THE FIRE in the performance. Like the masters ie. Led Zeppelin

A few days ago we had a first rehearsal with a man with a keyboard

This is the very first take - 100% live. A lot of mistakes (keyboard-man didn't know our song), snare without springs etc., only one mic crowded in somewhere between drum kit and my cab, connected to cassette deck. But I hear the FIRE here! Do you?

Yeah, Manning ....

I use Sound Blaster Live! - one of older models with non-coloured inputs. Mixer is almost as cheap - it's Behringer UB802.

Of course it would be very nice to do something together - you can send me the tracks to:

zespol at animaband dot pl

or put somewhere to download. It can be mp3 at 192 kbps or ogg - whatever you like. I will listen to them, you'll tell me what would you expect and I'll try to

would be lots of fun.
i hope to have some new song ideas in the next few weeks.

be aware...lol....i'm a highly strange songwriter.
one minute i might write a rok song then the next a ballad or middle of the road, or a bluesy/jazzy number.
cant explain it....i just like haveing fun with different music genres...and follow the muse where it takes me.

my problem to be frank is i have no shortage of songs, dont get block etc, just a lack of folks to work with here in canada ,
as i live in a rural area.
you can hear some of my song efforts (of about 400 tunes) if you go to my motagator site in my sig.
thats amazeing what youve done with the live and behr.
just goes to show inexpensive gear can do the job.

do you by any chance have a good live drummer ??

Great song Jurek, and that! for a one mike recording.
As a producer i allways think how this would sound when it was recorded on seperate tracks, mixed and mastered.
Again clean and great song.

Allways nice the hear music from Poland (my three kids comes from Poland).
Thats why this special feeling bout you music and Country.

Dang. Nice snappy snare, and good overall recording for informal. Hi-hats are a little low, etc., but otherwise great!
