P.S.: The gui's are stunning:
(click the name for the link)
BootEQ- a musical sounding mixing EQ.
at a glance:
- four independent bands plus additional highpass filter
- special selected and musical sounding EQ curves and phase responses
- capable of reproducing several 'classic' curves
- well adjusted auto Q and versatile overlapping frequency ranges
- minimized curve warping at Nyquist frequency
- stepless selectable frequencies in low mid and high mid band
- adjustable HF shape
- level metering and output volume trim

Density- smooth and versatile dynamics processing.
• smooth and versatile stereo dynamics processing
• flexible audio encoding and routing
• designed for glueing all things together
• few controls, flexible work
features:
• zero latency processing
• natural, smooth and unobtrusive coherent compression
• modelled transformer circuit
• modern and program dependend release curve
• seemless MS compression and blending
• phase consistent internal mixing
• special 'phat' mode for reduced compression artifacts
• sidechain filtering
• completely SSE optimized

TesslaSE- modelling pleasant sounding 'electric effects' coming from transformer coupled tube circuits in a digital controlled fashion.
at a glance:
• transformer style signal saturation
• smooth transient polishing and increased RMS leveling
• subtle analog style signal colouration
• switchable sub bass enhancements
features:
• zero latency processing, low CPU usage
• harmonic enhancements without artefacts (aliasing)
• dynamic noise model
• proprietary signal processing and modelling algorithms implemented
• performance crucial parts are written in assembler, completely SSE optimized

Rescue-Rescue features decent gain and transient mechanics applied straight forward to m/s encoding. Some decent non-linear signal couloration is given as well.
For further features and overall handling please check the manual. Use the presets for inspiration but don't take them to serious - u will have to tweak your own like with EQ or Comp.

Also, EpicVerb - a new reverb plug.
links are outdated too. to get these plugins go here:

Default A GREAT VST Link Thread!!

Here's a great thread I found which has current links to some of the best freeware VSTs out there, and some great descriptions/details about them!! I have just started to use the Bootsy stuff on some new projects, and I'm really impressed!!

Joystick Control:
http://vinuesa.club.fr/projet-flou/e...ystickctrl.htm

MIJOY equivalent, with more options and freeware. Let you use your joystick (buttons and axis) to control a lot of things. You can use the axis as a volume/wah pedal, buttons to trigger recordings or bypassing effects, etc. A bit ugly, but does the job very well. You can still use Joystick MIDI feature of Reaper when using this plugin.

Default Virtual Tuner

Since I found this excellent free tuner VST I have stopped using the JS tuner that I was using before.

http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/do...tware/Tune-It/

It's a virtual chromatic tuner with adjustable precision (inverse to CPU use) and pitch.

It's the only one you'll need in Reaper

Default Pretty good free ampsim

GreenMachineII

I used this one a few years ago, but it was an expiring demo, and I just had too many good free ones to need to buy it.

Patrick Wurr has now released it for free, and it's probably now in the top 5 of free ampsims, IMHO. (with simulanalog Gsuite, Juicy77, Nick Crows and Your Favorite Free Ampim)

http://www.greenmachine.sealandweb.d.../Download.html

Really intuitive, lots of features, great presets, low CPU, no denormals, no glitches.

enjoy

Default Linux Sampler

Uses gig files and is available for Linux, Windows and MacOS (standalone, VST, AU).
Worth trying: http://www.linuxsampler.org/

There is also free piano gig available on http://www.linuxsampler.org/instruments.html

It's a BIG gig ;-) and sounds great...

Have you tried this?

Piamo

Piamo is an elementarily modeled virtual piano, providing variable performance timbrality in a gentle emulation leant to abstraction.

(goto www.xoxos.net and scroll down to find it and the download link)

I'm not for a moment suggesting that it sounds better than mda piano, just that it's the only free Physical Model Piano VSTi I've found so far.

Also it's very clever, Piamo = 'I love Pi'

Just a heads up for a really solid multisample playback engine with some great sounds included, called Yellow Tools Independence Free, and there are both 32bit and 64bit installers available.

They have some amazing and cheap instrument libraries for sale via download too.

Yes, a must have. Works flawlessly in Reaper. Excellent acoustic drum and percussion kits. The spanish nylon guitar is the best I've ever heard from a sampler/software mojo.

IF you are looking for a decent ampsim, "Dirthead" is a pretty fantastic insert. And it's free of course. When it comes to other ampsims (Commercial ones like POD Farm, Revalver, WAves GTR3) this can compete with them..only one amp model though (With 3 channels, 5 band EQ)

A bump for Melda Production freebies; they have gone a long way since their last mention in this thread; the free suite (though maybe not usable for commercial use unless shelling out 30$) is very good IMHO.

Don't install the software. Think of it as a big`ol powered flashdrive. It's plug-n-play.
Don't use it for samples, though.

Default BC. Lab SA/PEQ Spectrum Analyzer/Parametric Equalizer

http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ab6s-med...clab/sapeq.htm

ReaEQ takes some beating, but quite impressed with this parametric EQ which includes a spectrum analyzer.

It says it's a trial that can be used forever which makes it a freeware, but the SA get's overlayed with a nag regularly. Tried to contact the Japanese developer about registration, but no response. This was long before the recent events in Japan so not connected to that. I think it's basically dropped.

I use freeware a great deal, but there's so much good freeware that it's difficult to narrow things down. Still, I do have my own personal Freeware Top Ten if people are after my recommendations. If you're looking for specific categories of mixing freeware, then check out the Links sections in the different topic pages here.

Another cool thing out is TubeOhm's To-Stepper.

It comes bundled with their new free synth Anti-Transpirant which is also quite a gem imo, even if monophonic.
