Default Poorly Re-Sized Plugins Since 3.73

it's just Blue Cat plugs so far, but they're appearing with scroll bars on the side and bottom

Yep, I have noticed poor resizing with Kontakt 4 too lately. Gets horizontal and vertical scrollbars instead of just stretching the FX window to the size of Kontakt's UI. Fix needed!

Yep, noticed this too. From the top of my head, TC Electronics M30. Probably more plugins as well, I'll let you know.

No such problems here. But I`m on mac so this might be pc-related?

Kontakt 4: I can't reproduce the problem. The K4 GUI is resizable by grabbing the lower right grippy corner (which is drawn by Kontakt), if I resize using that handle, I sometimes see scrollbars flashing for a moment, but when I let go the scrollbars disappear. If I resize by grabbing the actual window border (not the K4 GUI, but the frame around it), then the K4 GUI does not resize, but this is expected and is not a change in behavior.

I can reproduce with "aptrigga" though -- looking into the problem.

Well actually, the problem with "aptrigga" seems to be with the plugin. Specifically, the plugin reports that its width is 600 pixels, but it actually creates a window 700 pixels wide. The behavior of that plugin has not changed in 3.73 as far as I can tell (it's the same behavior in some older versions that I checked).

The Blue Cat plugin problem is something we can fix, though -- fix coming soon.

Hmmm - I get improper stretching (not enough of it - introducing sliders) the very moment I load Kontakt in Reaper. After manually resizing, it works fine, yes, but when loading it's not right.

Can you describe specifically what happens when you initially load Kontakt? Do the scrollbars appear, but they vanish if you increase the plugin width and height by even one pixel? Or something different?

Even if we can't get to the bottom of the Kontakt issue specifically, it's possible the Blue Cat fix will also fix whatever you are seeing (especially if the problem appears to be that the scrollbars think the window is exactly one pixel narrower and shorter than it really is).

Scrollbars get displayed on load, and they stay until I readjust the plugin window so that scrollbars aren't necessary (at least to my memory - don't take my current word for it as I am not completely sure, I just remember scrollbars showing with no reason for them to show). Sadly I'm not home at the moment, but I'll send you a GIF tomorrow around noon my time (which is in about 20 hours from right now) which will definitely explain enough - I hope it won't be too late then

Same problem : the scrollbars appear on loading for these free plugins :
VOPM
SQ8L
AZR3
Their windows are a few pixels short.

OK Schwa, it's even worse than I have it remembered! I cannot get rid of the scrollbar AT ALL - I need to completely resize the K4 GUI and then muck around with it, then toggle the Browser on and off so that I finally get rid of them. This is not nice

To summarize my experience with this "bug"...

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=67445

1. Definitely started happening with v3.72. Older versions are 100% OK.
2. The track window physically shrinks by 1 pixel in X & Y, hence the scrollbars.
3. 100% reproduceable.
4. Manually resizing by +1 pixel in X & Y removes scrollbars.

Perhaps related to this...

+ VST: better resize notification support

...in the v3.72 changelog.

This issue is a MAJOR annoyance.

Here's a link to the Absynth 3 Demo. It exhibits this problem just a bit differently than reported with the full app at the above forum link, but the 1-pixel resize is still the crux of the problem.

Navigate patches for full effect.

http://download.cnet.com/Absynth/300...-10228877.html

Backtrack to versions pre-v3.72 and all is 100% OK. Just confirmed that here.

This issue may be fixed in the current 3.74pre2 prerelease, if anyone cares to test it.

As said, it almost fixes it with K4. Hiding the browser enters scrollbar hell again.

No joy with the v3.74pre2 install. Behaves differently, but still has resize issues. Again, v3.71 and older are 100% OK.

Tested with the Absynth 3 demo. Will try the full app this evening.

I just tested and I don't get this problem with Reaktor on my XP/Reaper x86 system, but I do on Win7/Reapher (x64).

This appears to be a partial fix with the full app.

Good - The GUI window no longer shrinks by 1 pixel in X & Y. The correct window size is always drawn.

Bad - While navigating through different presets, Reaper seems to "remember" the largest GUI window it has recently drawn.

The effect is that for smaller GUI windows, Reaper believes the redrawn window is not large enough vertically (even though it is) and adds a vertical scrollbar (that in turn causes it to then draw a horizontal scrollbar).

Well-drawn larger preset GUI window:

Reaper then redrew a properly-sized smaller preset window for a newly selected preset, but remembered the above GUI size:

Without the scrollbars, the GUI window is the correct size. Solve why Reaper believes the window needs to be many pixels higher (ie. why it is "remembering" the largest recent GUI window), and the problem will be solved.

Tentative yay. This is one of those things where fixing one plugin can break 12 others (in fact, the original code change that broke Absynth was put in to fix Alchemy), so we'll wait to see how other plugins do before getting too excited.

I seem to remember the Absynth 3 VST not behaving GUI-wise in Sonar Home Studio (my previous ill-considered DAW). Not sure whether it was NI's plug or Sonar, but I'm pretty sure I ended up adopting the DXi plug until the refreshing switch to Reaper.

Thanks for the (tentative) fix.
