Default Peaks folder.

Isn't there a way to make sure that the Peaks folder is always set in the project folder and is automatically created , how the audio folder is made ?

If it is already possible , can someone help explaining it how ?

Probably best to just set a global peaks folder that is used by all the projects. The peaks files are not critical anyway, Reaper can always recalculate them if they are accidentally or on purpose removed.

I agree with Xenakios. Set a global folder then it means you won't have files scattered around your hd. For instance, even if you found a way to automatically have a peaks folder in your project folder - if you preview something in the media player outside of a project that peak file will be generated in the folder of whatever music you're previewing - annoying.

So a global folder is the best solution in my book.

Agreed.

But being able to store them in a sub-folder within the project folder would
(a) not spray them all over the disks,
(b) allow them to be named meaningfully,
(c) reduce the need to rebuild them (when the global peaks cache is cleared)

It would be cool if you could have an automatically generated peaks folder in your project folder (some other DAW's have that), and, a way for Reaper to use a Temp folder for any peaks outside of a project. Then there wouldn't be any scattered files anywhere.

I use Search Everything. It makes a quick log of every file on your system. I have bookmarked two searches - *.rpp-bak and *.reapeaks and once a month or so I go through and delete them.

You could just save all peaks to a Temp folder that you point to in preferences. Then Reaper will use those Peaks while they are there when you open a project in the same environment. If they are not there anymore or if you open the project somewhere else, the peaks will get regenerated anyway.

I think this is all i wanted to say.
Backing up projects is neater when every relevant piece of information is nestled in one folder.
Especially when backing and pulling out film score cues rebuilding peaks sometimes does take a wee bit of time.

thank you Darkstar for articulating this for me !~

cheers
