Default What Would You Want in a New Default Reaper Theme

In spite of all the alternative themes, I don't think that the default Reaper theme is unsightly.

[My wish-list wouldn't be too long: I prefer rounded corner squares for most controls because I think they are fast to scan visually either horizontal or vertical, without being pointy-jarring. The legends could be a little larger on the controls without crowding the edges--especially on the transport, which as a musician is the very first thing I want to notice.]

About the only thing I can think of that I would like to change is to give an option to have fewer FX slots in the mixer channels.

Unless you are using a gazillion effects per track, the present system wastes a huge amount of precious real estate AND means your faders are squished down or take up too much room for the rest of the necessary stuff.

I suppose the most rational approach is to make it like adding or removing tracks etc, so you keep everyone happy.

A theme that doesn't combine poop brown with pistachio green, topped by a hazy sheen over it all? Something which harmonizes with the general appearance of the given operative system would be nice. Something which doesn't make you think about how it looks at all, but just 'is there', ready to receive your ideas and work.

Also something adapted for mouse usage. Enough of darn things looking like hardware, with round buttons (made for fingers, not mice movements) and wasting huge space for colorful neon meters and framings.

1. The ability to theme everything, including plugins and plugin windows
2. It's not going to happen, but I'd like to see it vector-based. In FL Studio you can resize anything.
3. Narrower MCP track defaults. In the v.4 theme you could fit 4-6 more tracks in the mixer.

You're right about the squishing, but I think a lot of people use the TCP or the MCP, but not both at the same time.

Even on my 2x 23" Ips panels I struggle to get faders looking "right" to me but I am used to 100mm real faders, which is probably why I resent all that blank acreage.....

Shame as the TCP is just about right on my left monitor.

Drag and drop to rearrange every element (like Adobe Audition) but that's not even possible with a theme...So as long as White Tie does the theme, I'm good with whatever.

The main reason I like the default is the layout. I can shrink the tracks down to their smallest level, and still have all the buttons and controls I need. This way, I can work stricly in the TCP and with track-amounts in the hundreds.

I'd like to see more clever space management and a new UI.

Easier zoom management
compression reduction view in mixer
midi controler lane improvement
Master volume control and CPU usage in transport bar
Option to avoid TCP to be indented when in folder (in order to gain horizontal space)
Option to show/hide sends and FX in mixer view, height of the mixer automatically adjusted accordingly (as studio one)
a properties panel (as Logic X)

the new 'make hit song' button....

but really... ivan and others... some themes let you choose what to show or not show in the MCP in terms of FX slots, params, sends...

an then you should have a divider area between each of those which can be dragged up or down... so you can, in those kind of themes, make the number of fx slots visible in the MCP less or more...

at least:
-separator, which don't behave like a track, can't send/receive signals, doesn't counts as a track number, just clean dummy panel with maybe field for text, no more.

-separate fxlist in tcp

-separate sendlist in tcp

I haven`t managed to find one yet - any suggestions? I find this really irritating when things get crowded on the mixer screen.

Themes? I must not understand the context of this statement. Those are all mixer flags/options set by right click. Their visibility isn't theme related afaik.

reducing space lost

- allow to load toolbar button on transport bar
- allow to load multi layer button in toolbars
- allow to display ACTIONS buttons on ecp, tcp and mcp via walter
- allow to hide completly region-marker and tempo lane

.No more meaningless dark muted track, please.
.Do not slip items ( right or left ) while zooming horizontally.
.There is little redness in the midi channels ( in the meters ), really bad.
.Track comment above in MCP, side in Tcp like pro tools.
.Decibel measurement is logarithmic, examine the meters of the other daws. The Reaper Dev can do it anyway, maybe even better.
.Correct alignment of the cursor over the edge of items and other theme elements, mixer, tcp edges ETC.

A dark theme with dark notation background, which optimizes real-estate. Get rid of every boarder etc. that's not needed.

I could do with a rework of the fx window. Rather all windows for that matter. I never really feel completely submerged in REAPER simply because every time I open a window, it's a Windows window. Not like, say, Cubase where the mixer window, etc. are integrated into the DAW itself. Sounds trivial I'm sure but hey, you asked.
Skinned ReaPlugs would be cool also... maybe even add some more?(i.e. ReaChorus, ReaFlanger, ReaLimiter, etc.)
It'd be really cool(imo) if Stillwell and the boys just cut loose and gave REAPER everything you'd need (not counting JS):transient designer, limiter, 3 or 4 different types of compressors and eq's, etc. Just to eliminate the reliance on 3rd party plugs for fx. Believe me, if they made ReaLimit or ReaClip with the precision and craftsmanship of the other ReaPlugs, I'd be sold completely.

We should make a wish list for future versions of reaper, with voting system, I trust that the bosses will read it.

albertxxxx =), what Iii want in new theme, it must have VR support and 3d control panel, where you step in and control REAPER with gestures, imagine how kewl it will be:
move fx window - move your furniture in the room
scroll view - begin to run anywhere
close REAPER through menu - leave the room and close the door
close REAPER through "x" close button - leave the room and close the door louder!
p.s. And don't forget about DLC and microtransactions!

I for one assumed this was a sort of "if anything were possible" thread.

And does the above mean that even my humble request for either a smaller FX slot area in the mixer page or ideally a selectable number of slots is a definite non-startere with Walter the way it is now?

*sigh*

You can already choose how many Insert slots are shown on the MCP. Move the divider above the routing button to change the size of the extended mixer area. Move the dividers inside the extended mixer area to change how that space is shared between inserts, sends and parameter knobs. Hold control while dragging to change all tracks, hold alt while dragging to change all selected tracks. Use the mixer menu button on the MCP master to blanket enable / disable your choice of inserts, sends and/or parameter knobs.

I think this is something best left to the user, not the theme.

I like big faders and not so many fx insert slots. I like the fact that this happens regardless of the theme I use.

I'm quite happy with the default theme.

The only thing I would change is the transport controls.

The default style is not very attractive so a more modern looking set of transport controls would be great.

With lua script, this kind of indicator is possible. I know it can't be controlled through a theme because it's based on images. But with the native Reaper theme, it should be possible, no ? Even if its disconnected if you use an external theme...
