Dimaension X - Dimaex5003
Dimaex5003 by Dimaension X - the 2nd album release by Dimaension X for 2018. The latest in the "5000" series, Dimaex5003 continues the percolating sequencers, heavy grooves, melodic guitars and synths. Yeah, more of the same. But more ...

ThnX Hugo! Yeah, I love classic old Prog like King Crimson, Yes, old Tangerine Dream and GOBLIN, along with some of the new synth based bands like ZOMBI (who are like Goblin without the guitars). I like lots of unison or harmony work between the guitars and synth melodies.
So anyone have any suggestions for the next direction Dimaension X should explore?

First off - like the mixes! Tons of energy in your music.. Lots of really nice small details. This is definitely "thinking music"! No vocals to get in the way and distract.
I like the kick/snr - and the guitars are super tight - perfect for these compositions. Love the groove in 'Four Avatars of the Vortex', and there's something really trippy about "Cenotaph of Shields" I dig.. The ending is stellar with the feedback!
Great job!!

Thanks for the comments ... I love creating music with weird synths that "move" and modulate and add weird little random sounds that mess with you.
And the feedback is from my secret weapon pedal - a Digitech FreQout. I highly recommend it for getting radical feedback at low volumes in the studio.

Not my genre, but I can tell your stuff is mixed well and produced well. I was especially impressed that the rhythm guitars are not too loud. Good balance in the mix, very clear and articulate. Nice work.

I see we have a common ground. I like every band you mentioned earlier with the exception of Zombi, whom I've never heard but will check out. I hear those influences too. Really really like Evocation.

Thnx again for the comments folks. I do try to balance out the mix, and keep the guitars from overshadowing everything. The synths are as important as the guitars, ... this isn't really "metal" where the guitar would dominate. I call it electronic rock music. To me, all the instruments are important. Maybe the synths are even more important at this juncture of my musical journey?
Definitely check out Zombi if you like this. To me, they really do it so much better. I'd even say that Zombi remind me of Rush without guitars.

At 5003 albums you might be slightly ahead of Buckethead now. That sounds pretty damn polished, is that your new magical preamp box doing the silky smooth distortion?
edit: how do you people make your guitars sound so coherent, I could play til my fingers bleed, edit everything to shit and still be nowhere as tight sounding.

Tone is definitely a big part of your guitar sound, but practice, practice practice. And I still think my guitar work sucks. Just listen to the new young players out there like Rob Scallon, Jared Dines, Sarah Longfield, Pete Cotrell, Steve Terreberry ... so much young talent.
I've been trying to keep the guitar melodies very simple on the "5000 series". The majority of the guitar and synth melodies are written on keyboard, so getting the guitars and synth sounds to work together is the trick.
And mixing everything so you can hear everything. I do NOT use a lot of EQ on the tracks, unless I really have to.
BTW: it's not really 5000+ albums. I think Buckethead still wins.

Ah yeah, "make djent cover of Enter Sandman on a banjo made of shovel and uptuned 17 octaves up" novelty song squad. I spent months trying to make youtube stop recommending those to me every time I'm there. I feel irrational hatred to youtube novelty guitarists, can't help it.

I agree, sometimes they can be a little annoying, but there are some decent players. I'd check out some of Sarah Longfield's solo work, along with her singing.
For example - a very interesting song by Sarah Longfield made with "found" samples that she recorded herself in Germany. Reminds me of Bjork or Kate Bush.

Very good production!
I prefer your more "psychedelic" stuff though, personally. Also the slower stuff, for some reason. The ones with the doomy, heavy guitars, too.
@zeekat, I thought your recordings were pretty tight, but I understand what you say. I feel so sloppy myself compared to others, even if I do practice with a metronome. It takes a machine to record modern-sounding guitars. And I refuse to edit guitars: what a nightmare that must be. I even find it frustrating to remove the noise in vocal tracks, let alone that.
Also, I hate those guys too! What a better world if Youtube wouldn't make suggestions.
