Default Scarborough Fair -- unplugged

https://soundcloud.com/jorgensandber...fair-unplugged

Like it says. Did the recording just now. Anyone who likes to add a little something to it? No click, I'm afraid. Key is C minor.

I'd love some musical instruments who come and do its thing, and then goes away, maybe comes back later. In other words: instruments arranged like a musical effect. Just an idea.

I rather like the stark version. Has sort of a Working Class Hero feel to it.

Thanks guys. The mix is mostly mic position (it's a mono take).

I very much like your version.

I'm not a fan of Simon and Garfunkel, but your song yes.

I'm up for the challenge -- I have a few ideas Give me a few days (5 max) and I'll record some synths and perhaps other small bits here and there.

This is so, so true - especially with acoustic guitar recordings.

Maybe the only trick there is -- and a good room (and performance and a decent song). But I did some eq-ing alright, and a bit of compression.

Ok. I have a few files to share

I have three files: two instrument .WAV files and a temp Mix .MP3 so you can here what I'm aiming for...

Here is the temp mix with my additions:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/invh926e5v...Smix1.mp3?dl=0

Let me tell you a bit about what I've done.

I created a Tempo map of your song, then added two midi - FREE VSTi keys/synths. They are FREE but don't be fooled, they sound very professional and get the job done.

The first is called TRIPLE CHEESE and I used the GRUYERE setting.

https://u-he.com/products/triplecheese/

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xrjnje5v76...heese.wav?dl=0

The second is called Poly 2106 by Synthescience. I used the BRASS setting.

https://www.kvraudio.com/product/pol...-synthescience

https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3plyqicyu...y2106.wav?dl=0

I tried hard NOT to get in the way of your excellent version of the S&G song. It took some doing --- as I tend to go overboard: My first inclination was to create a crescendo -- keep adding more stuff as the song progresses... I was going to add bass and a bit of classical guitar, but decided not.

Please feel free to mix the song as you see fit. My mix was just to show you where I was going. You can mute pieces, cut and paste some sections, etc.

Also, I'm pretty sure two waves files should line up with your other tracks - assuming the start of your Render is the start in your project. I'm sure you'll manage to get them in sync -- since you have my temp mix as a guide.

Let me know what you think. K?

Great collaboration ! (Even though it's not "unplugged any more )

IMHO, the additions perfectly fill the gaps and make this piece a wonderful production. I feel the new voices could happily be slightly louder

I personally would like natural sounds like Cello and Flute (recommendation: Audio Modeling, best played with Breath Controller for live-modulations) a lot more, though.

RDBOIS, many thanks. I understand your thinking, it sounds very nice in places, I like to keep it, but do a little editing/mixing with it. So where are the wav-files?

Can you not access them as URL in my post above?

@mschnell: I agree that flute and cello would be very nice. I almost did that! But, there is something in the idea of going to the fair that invokes sound that are more dreamy and subconscious (not unlike the mishmash of colors, smells, and sounds at the carnival).

Hello Jorgen.

Beautiful song played beautifully. Absolutely haunting. The only thing that came to my mind was the flute. I have added one and you can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/michael-clark...air-with-flute

I think it adds to the haunting nature of your version. I went with your idea of bringing the flute in and out. I hope this is similar to what you had in mind.

If you would like, I can create and share the stem.

Thanks. I have put a second git on it, very discrete, like a sound effect here and there. Hopefully, I will have something to show tomorrow.

I only listened to the original acoustic and vocal version. Love the simplicity, clarity, and honesty of it. Very well done!

Oh yes. I like that 9th you put in, adds a bit of tension and drama. Big thanks. I like it just the way it is.

Alright, finally did a mix with the forum people aboard. All plugs are Dead Duck and Sonitus. Tried out asio4all on this newish rig (win10) and had no problems whatsoever.

Thanks, Michael, cool you liked it.

As it happens, I found a really beautiful version in this anime, beginning at 4.30ish. Ethereal.
