Default Soundcraft UI24r or Berhinger X32 Rack mixer

Hi everyone

I am interested in one of the above mixers,
I will be hard wiring it to a laptop, along
with using it via WiFi, and either allow for this.

Am just wondering which you would all go for.
Either one has enough I/O for me.
Either one has good enough app support,
Build Quality seems similar on both,

Right now am leaning toward the UI24 for the following
reasons,
It has built in multi track recording,
It has no deeply interactive controls for kids to
play with thus they can not mess up the settings too much.
The on board processing is fine for me.

I know the Berhinger has more onboard options,
but I am happy with what Soundcraft have on board too,
I would also need to spend extra to get the Berhinger
with on board recording, the card is 200.00 on its own.
I know the Berhinger has been out a long time now and
has proven its self to be reliable, especially in the
rack mount version, no slider to replace.

What I do not know, is how reliable the UI24r is, its not
out that long, but the company seem to have sorted the pre amps,
and the Wireless end seem better too, though I will hard wire it also.
If people were finding the Berhinger sounded better, then that would
be the deciding factor over my current lean towards the UI24.
We plan on using them with Yamaha DBR12 or if funds improve DSR 12
speakers.

I would like to hear your opinions on what you would all go for
if either would suit your requirements, I know of no one in my
area who has the UI24r yet so can not try one, they will all be like
me in that regard, no one wants to be the beta tester that paid for
the privilege.

Thanks for looking in, hope to hear your opinions and experiences.

I've never even seen the Soundcraft...

But we've got X32's although not the rack version. These are very stable and do all we need and a lot more. We only use them for live work occasionally. Mostly recording and studio duties and training youngsters in the use of digital mixers. The youngsters haven't been able to confuse these machines once and they seem to absorb the knowledge easily. We had Roland digital mixers before. Easier, more like analog and far less possibilities. A lot more expensive, especially the digital stage boxes. We also have one A&H GSR24M. Better sound. Less possibilities. Expensive. Nicer to look at. That one never gets used for live.

Support isn't perfect for either of those, but Behringer's support is the best. Not by far, but still, I'd expect better from the others.

I think the Behringer X18 is a better comparison with the Soundcraft. Also price wise. I've used one, only once, live, and had no problems.

Hi cyrano
Thanks for posting.
The X32 is definately no biggie to get your head around, and I find the
X32 mix app for windows to be fantastic, you can set up complete shows
without the mixer at all, and just import them when you need to and your
up and running.
Similar can be done on the UI24, but you need the physical unit connected
over the app which opens in a browser.
There are 20 inputs on the UI between XLR and TRS, this is more than what
is on the Rack mount version of the XR32, this is the connectivity I was
comparing, I had a look at the X18, and the A&H Q-pac too, and they had
their strong points too, I liked the android apps for them a lot, very
easy to use, I run them on my Surface pro 3, on AMI DuOs, Andy android
and NOX for android, and they all function well, even the browsers on them
can run the Soundcraft Demo, and it is fast too.

I'm in no hurry to buy yet, just looking at the options.
I think too that some time soon Berhinger is bound to introduce
a replacement for the X32, that would have to happen as soon as I
make a purchase.

Thanks for commenting.

Performing alone with backing tracks, I have the X32 Rack which I use with a compact PA (HK Audio Elements). It does a lot more than I need. But I bought it mainly to have something in a rack that I can hide away in a cupboard in my living room when used at home. I have a very understanding wife so the PA is also in the living room.

Can't say much about X32 Rack excepts it has worked fine for me controlled from an iPad. I don't use it for recording.

Hi tombuur, thanks for commenting.
I see a lot of people like the X32.
I had a go on the Android app for it, there are a lot of
processing options on board, but I think the app when in
demo mode does not show them, the ones available in the
Android demo are just knobs, compared to the App for the
X18, which shows up the full plugin and when you long press
on a knob a slider appears that is much easier to operate,
If the X32 had this slider instead of knobs I would be more
interested in it, am beginning to seeis the UI24 a little less
equipped in the FX department, though actually fine for me,
it has only two low pass filters, one on AUX1 and one on AUX2,
that can go low enough to send to a sub if the need arose,
there is a lot more FX on the Berhinger.
