Default Missing video files like the missing audio files dialogue box?

I'm working on a holiday video compilation.

I just reinstalled windows so when I opened up the project I get the usual 'This audio file is missing so can you point me to it or shall we just ignore it?' dialogue box. This has meant I could get the audio files back in place. Reaper doesn't seem to do this for video/picture files though. So I have 200+ video files that are 'offline' since they're source files can't be found. Sure I could place them all back in one by one but that would take a looooong time. All the video/image files are all in one folder on my PC so it would be great if I could somehow point reaper to this folder and it could use the file names to get all the video/image items working again. Is this possible?

Reaper does show warning messages for missing video files. Are you using a recent Reaper version?

Open project bay, highlight a missing item and then click on the "Restore ..." button. This should open the missing files dialog where you can browse for the correct location.

The restore button is greyed out like I can't click it?

When I right click an offline video file in project bay and go 'Replace in project' -> 'Browse for file..', setting the video file doesn't change anything.

When I drag video files into the project I get 'Could not import'

I do yes. And I assume ffmpeg is installed with it since if you don't have ffmpeg you get a warning when selecting to render video in reaper.. and I don't get that.

reaper has basic FFMPEG functions built-in but for additional render functions you need the full FFMPEG installed. And FFMPEG isn't the same as VLC. You can use VLC for playback decode and FFMPEG for rendering, or FFMPEG for both.

Thanks for that forum thread link. I messed around, properly installed ffmpeg and I was getting .avi to work but .mp4 wasnt. And 99% of the videos are mp4. But then I saw the new reaper has some VLC update and now mp4s play back! Awesome. Thanks for chiming in guys ✌️
